[#10393855]

Not me, well maybe after Xmas.
However, I’m definitely seeing the advantages of running a tubeless semi fat setup but after a brief foray into looking at new wheels I’m non the wiser. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good resource for all this stuff please. I’m basically wanting to convert my 2017 Troll frame to a 1X11 running 3inch tyres on 50mm tubeless compatible rims. Any recommendations on rims, groupsets or anything much appreciated.
Ta
Andy

When I tried semi-fat I got a set of Alpkit Rumpus wheels - cheap but shall we say "built to a price". Mine are still fine but I know of one or two people who've had the rims split. I've not looked beyond those TBH.

Groupset: Shimano SLX will go up to 46T in a 1x setup. Other 11spd mechs, both Shimano and Sram appear to be 42T max. Cassette - Sunrace. Crankset, I like the Raceface offerings with direct mount chainrings.

Stans Hugo or Sun Mulefut 50’s are both pretty widely available, good quality and not wildly expensive options to build with that will definitely do tubeless properly without being unduly heavy or having weird stuff to deal with... if you compromise a bit, WTB i45’s are a solid potential option too although they will push you to an asymmetric build which may break your spoke calc (Roger Musson’s copes with asymmetric rims)

Thanks for the advice, I looked at the Stans and Sun rims but they are not available in 26 inch size. Unfortunately the troll will accept 27.5 but not at a wide tyre size. I see Surly do a wide rim in a 26 but its not tubeless compatible.

You can get WTB Scrapers in 26". 40mm should be fine for 3" tyres.

Had a quick squizz at the scrapers and they are looking like the best of a rather 26” limited bunch. Large volume 26” tyre availability is another issue altogether. I’m hoping that 26” becomes the new 650b/27.5! But i doubt it.

I've been using 27.5" Scrapers for the past couple of years. Easy to build, stayed true, tubeless was a breeze.

My XT medium cage mech works perfectly well on a sunrace 11-50 without changing the b-tension screw, adding a goatlink, etc. I just took off the 11-42 and adjusted it.
