Anyone got any solutions for using a garmin over a number of days touring? USB hubs in a no no, any external power packs/chargers? It's for an edge 500 btw.
If your clever you can make one with stuff from maplins...I'm not clever but know a man who is.
What about a power monkey solar panel thing though recharging overnight may be a tad challenging...
Something like this?

I take it you already own the 500? The eTrex uses AA batteries. As does (I think) the Dakota. Both very good units for navigating and recording routes.
Aye, I have a 500.
Garmin do an external battery pack that is also solar powered, so can be recharged.

I managed to pick up an external battery from ebay. Works a treat. I think I got it for a TomTom originally .

You will need........
A mini usb lead for the connection.
A 5v voltage regulator (the little 3 legged kind, about £1.50).
4 AA batteries.
A battery holder.
Wire up the regulator inline between the battery holder and the usb lead, you'll have to check on the internet for which 2 wires in the usb lead are + and - as I can't remember. Worked for me.
Dynamo hub & B&M ewerk/ USB-werk
Instead of AA's could you use 18650's.?

£4.99 - works a treat to extend the battery life on my Forerunner 305

A Veho Pebble would have enough capacity for quite a few recharges.

Jota - that looks a perfect solution. Think I'll get one. Cheers.
I have been looking at one of these.
