Looking at a new frame which seems to tick all my boxes except having internally routed cables. Are there any other downsides to just using external cables and tiewraps other than the obvious untidyness?( I would obviously use a full length gear outer)
Just grit your teeth and do the internal threading thing once to avoid a festival of cable ties and stick on cable guides, frame rub and looking gash. Once it's done, replacements are easy with a cable inner.
Get the park tool or similar which makes it easier...
I was really wary of having internal routing on my Whippet but actually it wasn't as much hassle as I thought. Routing the dropper cable around the BB was a bit fiddly but it could have been worse. Bent spoke and an old gear inner with a hook bent in one end helped.
It's easy to do before the BB and forks are on so might as well try before building it up.
