[#10219332]

Got a new Exposure Strada light today and I’m struggling to fit the bracket to my bars. I’m using the plastic shims and rubber piece (is it rubber in the clamp first or plastic shim) but can’t get the clamp to close enough to engage the bolt in the thread. It’s for 31.8 bars. Do I need super human strength to close the clamp for the bolt or am I fitting it wrong?

the plastic bit is a shim for 26.8 bars or if your mounting it up by the controls.

its bracket and rubber only for the middle of the bars. if your bars taper quick you may need a few wraps of tape to fine tune.

There are two Exposure bar clamps. One is for 26.8-31.8 and the other is for 31.8-35.0.

Both should be fitted with the shim (if required) and then the rubber piece.

I’m fitting it next to the stem as per the instructions, there are two seperate plastic shims and the rubber piece, for 31.8 it says to use the shim. I assume that’s along with the rubber piece? If so that’s what I’m doing and can’t get the clamp close enough to bolt it up.

remove either shim or rubber bit and see if that works?

ah is that a new thing ? historically you ordered a 35mm or a 31.8/26.8 shimable clamp . makes sense that they have gone down the 35mm only shim to other size options mind - may have just run down the old stock selling them as above.

The size of the clamp should be written on it. I reckon you have the smaller clamp and are reading the instructions for the larger one. If so, ditch the shims and use the rubber bit.

I assume you're not trying to fit this over bar tape and/or a cable/hose??

The clamp is for 35 and 31.8 bars, without either the shim or rubber the bolt cannot be tightened sufficiently as the clamp sections meet each other before it the bolt can tighten. The bolt is quite short, I wonder if there should be a longer bolt for the 35mm clamp?

Not over tape or cables.

Just spoke with someone from Exposure. He admitted that the instructions aren’t overly clear and sometimes it won’t work with the shims and rubber. Trying just the shims now.

How big is your rubber? (fnar fnar) It should be very thin about 0.5mm maybe, it certainly shouldn't be thick enough that the clamp won't close with it but won't tighten without it. Is it pinching in the hinge?

Squeeze harder. HTH.

Have you trimmed the rubber piece at the marked line?

Yes I trimmed the rubber at the marked line. It’s clamped ok without the rubber. It seems with the rubber and the shims the clamp isn’t wide enough. The guy from exposure said the rubber is more for 35mm bars.
