The Mk12 version. Any good? Looking for new lights have had some cheap Chinese hobbies which are OK, but I would rather get something decent, had a magicshine in the past mounted on the bars which got me round Gisburn red easy enough.
Or any other cheaper options than the joystick?

Joystick is very good, more of a helmet mounted second light though.

I've the Mk11. I think the only difference is a few more lumens. I'd want more if I was blasting round a trail centre but for general XC type riding it's fine.

30% off at sigma sport at the moment. I went for the axis for a few more lumens for only a few more grams.

Will only be really for woodland trails, fireroad and canal paths. I'm too soft to do full nightriding anymore.
Also seen this magic shine http://www.magicshineuk.co.uk/bike-lights/magicshine-monteer-1400-lumen-front-bike-light.html

Mk 12 has a bit more power than the 11, plus a new back end switch unit. I have had most versions of the Joystick over the past decade and the 12 is certainly the best, as you would expect. Some models were very spotty, this one is a good balance, though still best on the lid with something else more powerful in bars. I have a current model MaxxD for that and they work well together,

Very pleased with my recent buy of Mk12. Price varies with colour, if you don't mind purple (umm it's used in the dark) then just over £100 notes bags one. Bright enough to use as an only light most of the time unless getting epic. Big benefit for me is the reliable battery performance and runtime - always afraid of my eBay specials randomly giving up which is a bit of a distraction when out in the blackness.

Bit too focussed for my road tastes compared with my previous version. Great helmet light that I couple with a mk2 Strada on and off road.

Also used for dog walking.

Possibly consider a Sirius then ?

I love my Joystick, but I'd agree it's really a helmet light to be used with a more powerful floody bar light offroad. The Sirius has a beam pattern that won't dazzle other road users unnecessarily and dangerously while illuminating the ground ahead with minimal spill.

At 1000lm you can get by on non-technical trails without a bar light.
The only big problem with a single light on the helmet setup is that if its a bit misty there's a 50/50 chance you won't be able to see anything at all

my axis came with a bar mount and a helmet mount. pretty easy to switch between the two.

My mark 6 joystick is amazing. The mark 9 not so much. The Axis is a bit pants. Stupid auto switch thing if you knock it. And the main switch doesn't work much of the time.

Ordered one at 1230 from Evans cycles. £111 to pick up from Manchester Trafford store. Collect within 2 hours. Still waiting to see if I can pick up nearly5 hours later, getting a bit pissed off now. 😡
