Forgive ignorance but what`s the difference in requirement between teh two? Surely an enduro is just a long XC ride, so why should teh heavier EN521 rims been seen as for enduro use whilst 717 rims are for XC??

enduro is a heavier duty than xc, more like all mountain , well when your talking about parts anyway
I feel that Enduro refers to stuff like the Mega Avalanche- sort of DH, sort of XC.

In the context of those rims Enduros are slightly tougher.
What the word means is totally irrelevant.
I've a few wheel sets, this is what I use them for:
XC racing and Enduros - 819 rims on 240 hubs shod with 2.1's
General XCing - 819/4.2/719 rims on Pro2 hubs shod with 2.2-2.35's
Rough Stuff (Peaks, Scotland etc) - 5.1 rims on Pro2 hubs shod with 2.4's
you`re well spoilt for choice then!! how long does it take for you to make up your mind on excat combo?? personally I spend FAR too much time changing tyres for different rides eg Kenda Karma 2.0, or 2.2, or Panaracer Razers or Schwalbe Black Sharks......
