[Closed] Enduro 2007 SL - Is this the rig for me?

[#1675871]

I'm set on getting a good deal on a 2007 Enduro SL frame without rear shock which i'm planning to rig with either a Fox Van or a DHX5 rear shock.. I'll eventually be putting some Fox 36 forks on and running my existing formula brakes and DT 5.1 Hope hoops ..

Now - alot of my riding will be trail centres and all mountain so it's important for the going up to be reasonably good, however i'm an aggressive rider and occasionally like to hit the bigger stuff coming down, uplift days, alps and whistler and still want a bike that's fairly slack and chuckable.. With the above spec in mind, how suitable would you say it'd be for that sort of riding?

Cheers

The frame is more than suitable. Any misgivings folk had were with the proprietry shocks, although the forks are super stiff (small bump sensitivity was an issue), although mine coped superbly in Fort Bill.

With a decent platform shock, I've never encountered a better climbing 6" travel bike, although mine weighing in at 28lb helps.

Fox 36's would be a good choice, but check your eye to eye length on the rear shock as Spesh have a habit of making it awkward.

Yeah, I thought that was the case..

I'm a bit of a rear suspension noob - Specialized list the dimensions of their shock as being 200 x 57mm, does that mean if I get a Shock with the same dimensions it'll fit (depending on the width and resevouire etc), or are there other considerations? also, are the mounts all a standard size or would I need a kit to mount a Fox shock to the frame?

Thanks for the feedback!

Your closest Fox spec shock is 7.875 x 2.25

you'd need to spec hardware as presumably the frame wont come with any.
the 07 was a specialized shock, so might not be normal size or spacing.. 6mm mounting bolts?

Anyway, what about a DHX air as opposed to heavier coil shock?
I have an RP23 on my Voltage FR so it doesn't need to be a coil shock to take the bigger hits.

A mate of mine known as "sheepsteeth" on the bikeradar forum has fitted a fox unit to his enduro - might be worth giving him a shout to see what dimensions he fitted.
