yesterday was a sad day...
I've finally had to go 9 speed. The 8 speed cassettes were making a real mess of my pro 2 cassette body and I've been thinking about swapping it over.. so now I'm SLX'd up and very nice it is to..!

My day to day bike still has a 7 speed freewheel on it!

7-speed gripshift on our tandem - its a complete and utter PITA. Can't wait to get rid.
I thought SLX was still problematic with Pro2's???

should've just got a steel freehub

9 Speed (& I aint changing) will do the same, but it only make a mess, not seen anyone completely right one off (though a post the other week claimed to have - didn't prove it with piccy's though). Get a replacement steel freehub if it matters that much to you.
Just in time for this year's 10 speed stuff.

You'll find....absolutely no difference whatsoever, just one more gear.
Pah! Anything more than 5 speed is just girlie.
Mind you, that is on my old road bike. My merlin has the usual 9 speeds.
