Is there a difference?

I’m trying to head around sizing, and I know there’s more to it than reach / head angle, and Bird are notoriously long, but looking at the new Decoy, even the XL is shorter than my ML Aeris, and the XXL only 8mm longer.

YT say I’m a large.

Reach is a static length on geometry charts, you can tweak that with stem size, bar width, sweep, etc, the reality is that you'll have to feel out an ebike for use, as they are just different in how you move them about and ride them, for me you'll have more to concentrate on than 20mm less reach on a large decoy over your ML aeris, my normal bike is 18mm more reach, but the way i position myself and so on, i don't even notice it, that's with both running 35mm stems and so on.

Best bet would be to find someone with one, or head down to the YT demo centre and see if you can do a parking lot run, if it's your first jump into ebikes you'll honestly have so many other things you'll find weird to get used too, i'd even bet the whole reach and attack position thing would be almost forgotten about with the whole readjustment to the weight and dynamics of an ebike.

Where do you live P-Jay? I have an XL you can try out for size. I live in Birmingham.

the increased bulk associated with an ebike physique will slacken the head angle; however, the gut will prevent leaning too far forward. so look for steeper HA, shorter reach

Huh?

What on earth are you on about, my E-Sommet (2021 version) is slacker, longer and the same reach to my Megatower and it rides better downhill due to the geo and low down extra weight (lower centre of gravity).

He's trying to be a tad facetious regarding ebikers. You wouldn't call someone a fat bastard openly on here, but it seems it's okay to judge folk if they ride an ebike. Yawn.

You need to look at the stack as well - it’s the diagonal line made by reach and stack that determines how big a bike feels.

Also I think there’s an argument for shorter reach and taller stack to give you more leverage to throw about the extra weight and often longer chainstays of an ebike. And you don’t need the length for stability because ebikes are way more stable.

there is a school of thought that FS ebikes should be a bit shorter than their non ebike equivalent, which I don't really get. I have a Spesh Levo SL and the geometry is identical to the regular Stumpjumper on which it is based

YT also say I'm a large and the paper figure concur. However, on the Demo day I did at FoD I was slower on a Large Decoy than I was on my ML Powerfly and faster on a Medium. The Large felt like I was perched on the bike whereas the Medium felt like I was in the bike.

“I have a Spesh Levo SL and the geometry is identical to the regular Stumpjumper on which it is based”

But that’s a lightweight ebike so there’s less difference in handling and the Stumpjumper Evo (which is also 150mm travel) is now longer and slacker.
