Always riding around there and didnt know about them?
Where exactly are they??
and video of same
Just clicked on the link. Fabulous pics. Hats off to you. Sums up what mountainbiking's all about for me.
Jeez that was very close... ๐
Great pics simon, i am gonna join you guys one day
you set off too late for me though ๐
Nice pics Simon, myself and a couple of friends were up in the lakes at the end of March and were inspired yo ride through it - thanks to your snowy photos of Cathedral Cavern (and your instructions of how to find it) had a great time riding through and clambering down the cavern, it really topped off one of my favourite rides in the lakes. Many thanks ๐
Cool video Plummer:-) Was an ACE day. Hats off to all you photographers! Oh and by the way we didn't really notice sfb taking all those shots - really!
I'll second what Diane says,an ace day indeed!
First time ever i've made it across the ford without going for a 'swim' ๐
Where exactly are they??
I posted about them on Saturday when I put up a few preliminary shots. From the ford at Little Langdale, head towards Hodge Close, looking out for a small gap in the wall on the right. It's about 50m short of the gate. Go through the gap and head left and up, about 100m to a flat area outside the upper entrance. At first the roof is too low to ride, but it soon gets higher. After some distance there's a side branch, and you can visit it if you climb over the fence. After than you come to the entrance into a large hole, open to the sky, where you have to climb down to the lower level, passing the bikes hand to hand. From there is a short tunnel into the main cavern, and another short tunnel leads out near Salter Bridge, just upstream from the ford.
There's another tunnel nearby, also invisible from the BW, leading into the quarry pit at Hodge Close. There's a defile next to the new gate just above the rattly slate run, about NY 315 018 (heading roughly south). It runs under the road and emerges on the side of the pit, as used by divers. Best wear your helmet to protect your head from the low roof (too low for biking I think) and do it on a hot day as it's usually flooded about 9". No lights needed as it's straight.
Stunning photos well done sfb
Simon, was that a beginners ride. Been looking at the bogtrotters website and your fairly close to me (preston). Only just started out so dont want anything epic. I just need an excuse to get out. Bit hard motivating meself and probably not the safest alone as a noob.
Graham
Simon, was that a beginners ride
yes, every Saturday. The ride was only 14 miles, but I had several shortcuts planned if anyone was flagging. Note this Sunday is also easy, Horton-in-Ribblesdale for a tour of Pen-y-Ghent. Saturday is probably Dunsop Bridge.
Can't make this weekend but next looks favourable. I take it your the Simon listed at the bottom of the rides page for beginners. Will call for next weekend hopefully.
Cheers, Graham.
ah, cathedral caves, was there on ?tuesday. after riding down to the mine entrance from the woods above i fell off a wall and split my helmet in half...
nice pics, need to go back again.
Even the 2 girls who were nervous due to vertigo or a recently mended ankle said they'd willing go through the tunnels again as it was so much fun ๐
we had hobbitses and orcs ๐
. I take it your the Simon listed at the bottom of the rides page for beginners
yep ๐
