Has anyone replaced normal laces in their riding shoes with those "no tie" elastic laces? ย Specifically to stop having a flappy bit of lace to catch in the chainring without having to stuff it down the shoe. ย I know that's pretty much a first world problem but I need new laces anyway, so considering the options.

Also why don't all shoes come with "lace bungee" on the lace to hold them in place instead of flapping around? ย Love my Adidas Terrex for having that seemingly simple piece of elastic...

I have elastic ones in my Five Tens. Can't say it's rocked my world, but it's worth doing.

I've got Hickies. They're good as you can vary the hold by lacing in different ways

Switch all the laces on my riding shoes for elastic ones. Not quite as firm a hold as standard laces, but don't come undone and just less hassle.

Actually prefer the Adidas speed laces (not elastic) but they're like hen's teeth...

Switched to them on my Shimano AMs because the velcro on the 'flap' kept pulling normal laces apart. Maybe not quite as tight, but do the job well enough.

Any recommendations then? ย The Hickies look neat but they're double the price of some on amazon...

I used to use Nathan Lock Laces in the days when I wanted that extra nanosecond in triathlon transitions but nowadays prefer Salomon Quicklaces, which are not elastic but I think are a better compromise between hold and faff (and don't lead to you losing a shoe when you get off the bike into deep sticky mud).

I would post links but with the absence of appropriate buttons on the "improved" forum I can't.

My MTB shoes and my trail runners (that I use for walking in) all have elastic laces in. Same for my gym shoes

MTB shoes have done all sorts of hike a bike in, never been a problem. I like the easy on and off nature of them (used regularly for short trips with the dog, they're often muddy so not having to play with laces is a boon)
