Hello,

I've just moved from Glasgow to Edinburgh and looking for an mtb club.
Google says that there doesn't seem to be an obvious one, other than the meet up.

Glasgow Mbc had a good riding and social side, is there something similar in Edinburgh?

Thanks

Andy

Edinburgh Road Club has a MTB side. Personally never bothered, if you are looking for folk to ride with there are plenty on here and a regular thread for Pentlands evening rides.

Well I'm new to the city, and don't know anyone, so finding some riding buddies is job number 1.

I'll have a look at the RC.

I met most of my riding buddies one of 3 ways

1) People off here
2) Racing
3) the Glentress Trailfairies. Which I would recommend to anyone, the work's good fun and we usually ride after. Great bunch of people. And also an orrible ****, me.

I ride with Midlothian Cycle Club. We're obviously based just outside Edinburgh. Regular Tuesday night mountainbike rides round the trails of Midlothian. Normally meet at the entrance of Dalkeith Country Park St 7pm.

Search on Facebook or go to midlothiancyclingclub.co.uk

This link might be handy. I'm planning on going for the first time.

The ERC mountainbikers are mostly active on the Facebook Group here:

You can join the Saturday morning rides and have a chat with folk

I think there's a fairly active east lothian group, I know a few of them but I've never made it to a ride, maybe mtbel will read this?

We've been quite quiet on the ride arranging front for a wee while as a lot of folk have been doing other things over the winter. We also occasionally hook up with the Midlothian guys for rides on and off-road. I've been busy/getting over injuries/riding road/setting up a mtb kids club and more but will be riding a lot more mtb again shortly. join the group, introduce yourself and keep an eye out for midweek night rides etc. We have miles and miles of decent off-road trails in East Lothian and I'm happy to show anyone* around and grab a quick pint after. I'm an ex GMBC member myself (early-late '90s)

Going for a ride in East Lothian is a lot like the film Deliverance, never stop pedaling and don't take up Mikes offer of a shower. There's a lot of willy waving, figurative and literal although Mike is more likely to give you a rear view. And despite all this I still go back although I have to let the memories fade between visits. Also mtbel looks a lot like Burt Reynolds, the one from Boogie Nights. The rest are more like Bert and Ernie. Trailfairies are a good shout too, a lot of OCD but a good bunch ๐Ÿ˜‰

It was once said I was the most 'normal', Mrs L had had a few red wines though and has since taken it back. I think the award has been without a holder since.

๐Ÿ™ How does Gary get to be Burt Reynolds , Robbie Coltrane yes maybe and Boaby fae the clansman definately. That means I'm probably Ernie as Floaty heid has a big massive coupon like Bert.

You start the thread Jimmy and I'll organise a route in East Lothian to ride. Sunday soon enough?
how long a route do you want? (anywhere between 10 and 40 miles is easy enough to arrange?)

It depends what you want to do. Lothians and Borders CTC have had some good runs lately - not terribly technical but interesting routes. They happen on Mondays if you're free. CTC They are announced on the Yahoo group Yahoo

Just bring a long travel 650b flourescent enduro machine as the old Railway path is not for the faint hearted...

East Lothian is famed for it's cottaging spots and with Yogadoat only just back from foreign travels hungry for Scottish beef any first time Enduroists certainly won't be disappointed ;). Bring yer own apres ride snacks as any local will tell ye "There's nae burger van on Pencraig Hill" ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ps. Thanks for organising this BIG STW ride Jimmy. I don't know what we'd have done without your hard work and commitment. ๐Ÿ˜†

That sounds about right. Oh and generally I'll accept the O and the C, but not the D so much. ๐Ÿ™‚

There's a Trailfairy session this Saturday, no need to wait for April! Same meeting point and start time as given by http://www.dmbins.com/developing/trails-page--2/take-care-of-your-trails-weekend-11th-12th-april-2015--2/borders-glentress-trail-fairies

Good wee turn out last night for Jimmy's ride and a mix of new and old faces ๐Ÿ˜‰
a bit shorter route than planned with the large(ish) group and the mechanicals but still a decent wee taste of what the flatlands of EL has to offer I think.. nice wee night in the pub after too.
Guess you didn't make it either Andyfb78. Don't worry, I'm sure there will be many more to come
