[#3117933]

Got a last-minute week arranged at a holiday cottage in Edale for a week with the missus, from 13th-21st of this month. Have been there before, a couple of years back. Had just broken my collarbone at the time so did a kit of dog-walking but no riding.

Obviously there are more trails round there than you could shake a shifter at. But what are the very best bits and how do you join them up? What cheeky bits can you use? What's best avoided? Anyone got any tips/route guides?

Better still, any locals or clubs in a reasonable radius that I could tag along with on a ride or two while I'm there? No substitute for local knowledge.

Jacob's loop is a cracking ride... There's a slim chance we might be out this weekend - you'd be welcome to tag along, but it'll likely be a VERY slow pace!

Im heading to Castleton with mates this weekend. We're planing on doing a loop around ladybower on saturday and then jacobs ladder on sunday.

Can gpx them for you sunday evening if they might be of any interest? The Ladybower ride is about 25miles and the Jacobs ladder ride about 20 I think/hope.

Get the VG Dark Peak book, 18bikes over in Hope will (probably) have it.

I can't imagine you'll really need any cheeky stuff, there's plenty of Bridleways in the area.

For starters, try linking up any/all of the descents listed on this site.
Depends what you're after really, tech or fast?
Cavedale is very good (fits both categories)

[Edit] The best bits in the area are all cheeky though and the locals may be reluctant to post them up on here. I suspect you'd be best served by tagging along with a willing local group if that's what you're after.[/Edit]

Thanks guys, esp Ecky-Thump for that link. Looks excellent. More than enough to keep me occupied. And yeah you're right, I'd prefer to ride with a group. If anyone's planning any Peaks pootles next week or the weekend after this one, let me know. I'll bump this thread nearer the time.

Note Chapel Gate has now been sanitised as a descent, but would make a good alternative climb and keep you off the road.

@ slowrider - yep, that sounds like a plan. If your username was fastrider I might not be so keen. ๐Ÿ™‚

@ eviljoe Yeah, one of those days should be OK, will be in touch.

Any more for any more?

Although I need to remember I'm supposed to be doing the great outdoors with 'Er indoors some of the time while I'm there.

Presumably you mean Cavedale? The descent into Castleton:
