Morning all!
Which is the best way round the classic Edale loop? Starting in Barber Booth & taking in Hollins Cross, Mam Tor, Ruship Edge.....Jacobs Ladder etc. Would you end going down Jacobs Ladder or start the day climbing it?
Thanks!!
Most regard clockwise as the best way around and starting at edale means best til last. Plenty of folks will say anti is better. It doesn't really matter. If you only do it once go clockwise but if you'll can come back try both.

The JL climb seems really hard to put even a small dent in, and the descent down the otherside is boring (the middle bit of the climb is OK, but it's hard to get motivated when you've just hiked up the main switchback).
Switch this around and you've got a good hard climb that is relatively smooth, and a great descent. So definitely clockwise from that point of view. That's just one part of the ride of course, I'm not sure what's better overall.
Anti clockwise for sure. 😉 Jaggers Clough is dull as a dull thing if you go clockwise and really quite good if you go anti. And you get multiple choices for your final descent, all of which are better than Jacobs Ladder.
I prefer the JL start, granted it's a savage 'warm-up' but the other side climb is just dull as IMO. Also, the downy sections of the BW after you've climbed out of Coldwell are a hoot.
But who am I? ...but a worm.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated. Off we go then!!
