[#10740511]

`went to Cannock a few weeks ago and coed y brenin today and it seems we are getting out numbered. Highlights of the day today was a 13 year old wheelying out the cafe at the top one handed with a bag of crisps and a can of coke.
All the people who say ebikes give just as good a workout I can't seem to believe as I never noticed one of them braking a sweat apart from a fat lad walking with his bike cause his battery had run out. I'm sure they serve their purpose for people with disabilities and old age going against them.
Will we all be forced out of the convinience of trail centres and pushed to the the secret squirrel trails and out into the middle of no where so the ebikes can't find us.

Don't go to trail centres.

Pffft, up here they have vans to take you to the top of the hill and in some places there are contraptions you can sit in which effortlessly whisk you to the top. Even seen some 'pros's' using them.

Totally agree, E bikes are for lazy bastards who can't be arsed to pedal a real bike then claim all the bullshit in the world they give just a workout as a normal bike.

It’s all about the speed bro, derestricted you can sit behind roadies too it’s entertaining. Biking for me is about fun not fitness, however lost 1 1/2 stone since started ebiking, it must do something or that wouldn’t have happened. Downside is negativity and sometimes abuse from normal cyclists, I prefer to live and let live but some folk are so far up their own arses they have to share their opinion, if it makes them happy it’s all good cos they obviously need to vent 😁

It may come as a shock but some people who have ebikes still also ride none ebikes.
It must be very confusing for you having to make judgements on people based on the bike they are on at any particular moment.

Oh you're one of "them" *shudders. I agree biking is for fun. But it used to be fun when I was a kid of riding my crappy BMX and first MTB my mom and dad got me. It was a sport for the people, not just the people who wanna spunk 5k on an ebike. I'm not saying they aren't fun.
Motocross is also fun but I wouldn't ride one through the woods for funs sake

I think it depends on the trail centre really. At Coed Y Brenin I didn’t see a single e bike a few weeks ago - although we rode both blacks and didn’t see a single other soul full stop.

Antur Stiniog there were a couple - although they were also uplifting in the mini bus - maybe it was their only bike that had enough travel.

Swinley I’ve seen loads of e bikes each time I’ve been here and the same at the FOD. Less so at Cwmcarn.

I’ve not particularly got a problem with e bikes except when they decide to tailgate you on a pedally / uphill section where there isn’t anywhere to let them by - especially so if they then hold you up on the downhill after that you’ve worked hard for (and they haven’t so much).

I couldn’t afford a bmx I had an old Raleigh while all the cool kids had bmx’s, yup motocross is fun on an Mx bike and I too wouldn’t ride one through the woods, are you thinking an ebike is like an Mx bike ?

But as you’re One of “them” *shudder cyclists You’ll never understand, it’s another problem with trail centres they let poor people in and they get angry and jealous, enough to moan about it on the internet 😁

I probably saw 15 or 20 today. One lad on an ebike at Cannock I let past me as he was tailgating me, then he rode right at the back of another bloke and pressured him so much that the bloke came off the track and into a ditch.
Maybe we should put a cap on bike prices all together. Mines not worth 5k

Was at MTB meet-up in Saturday. Heaving with all kinds of riders and bikes.

E-Bikes probably represented less than 5% of bikes I saw.

I’m a real TC mincer, honestly I live between Afan, Cwmcarn and BPW, on top of that I’m at FOD, Brechfa and Nant-Y-Arian when I’m not at my local ones.

E-Bikes make up a tiny minority of the bikes I see.

Saw 3 on saturday and none today.
You sure you didn't see the same 3 keep lapping you.😜
You'd have been offended with the bike I was on as it's worth more than my ebike.😂

If I wasn't buying a new house I'd have a levo in a heartbeat after demoing one at Traildays a few weeks back. It's not quite double the riding double the fun as they don't descend quite as well for me due to the extra weight but it's not far off. Being able to blast out quick laps would be good, the lord's hill climb at Eastridge is tedious the 1st time let alone doing it multiple times.

Whos gives a shit what bike someone is riding.. You must have a perfect life if all you can think about whilst riding around is whether someone has a motor on their bike or whether they're a singlespeeder or fatbiker or (fat biker) or if they're on a 26er or a 36er.
As long as you're having fun, that's all that matters.. I bet I have more fun on my bike than you so ner😉
Cannock chase is ruined by all the strava warrior ****s anyway.. Not once had a good experience there when riding with my kids.

ebikes are meh. for me roughly 1/3 more descents but less than half as fun.

1 1/3 - 1/2 = 5/6

an ebike is 5/6 as good as a normal bike.

totally sound and well founded conclusion.

I ride a lot at Cannock as it's relatively close and a good ride, although the best bits of the ride are off the main trails.

There are a lot of ebikes around for sure but the vast majority of the ones I see at Cannock are ridden by riders that can clearly handle a non powered bike and just seem to be having a different type of ride. Certainly as friendly and sociable as any other rider, so I wouldn't rant about them as a 'type'.

Ignorant people that buzz back wheels and pass in the most ridiculous places whilst on a strava hunt over the blue routes (in busy public sections) will and do get a piece of my mind. It isn't an ebike thing though.

Riding is riding, and it's all good - as long as individuals we all behave and respect one another and the land etc.

Having just watched that Guy Kesteven review of the Whyte at Whinlater, what worries me is that the speed achievable on climbs vs analog in less skilled hands is going to result in some incidents due to speed differential, getting hit by a 50lb bike and outsize rider at speed will hurt.

I demoed a ‘chipped’ or ‘off-road only’ Levo back in Spring. Rest assured they’re fast, but not so much you’d be skittling riders on the way up.

Nah, I was riding black, as everyone knows e-bikers are all pussys and would have been riding the blue ‘kids trail’ (assume you saw the Twitter fall out?).😉

I’ve only ever been offended by 1 bike. My mate teamed a Lime Green frame with red tyres, the result was so bad we named it the Nausiator.

Three of the selfish so and sos overtook me today on kitbag hill at Cannock, they slowed down on approaching me, I nipped into the trees and they said "thanks" as they went past, before I carried on my way. This is the second time in three weeks this has happened. Its the end of civilisation as we know it!
I bet it was an e biker who left the litter pointed out in my earlier post*

* I have no evidence for this at all.

I nipped out for an hour on my ebike earlier, did 23km, got 4 good descents in and bagged 10 KOMs! 10, count em, 10!

So. Much. Win.

Love my ebike, bought on hols from decathlon in France for a thousand Euro’s and I reckon it’s paid for itself in Strava KOMs already.

A couple a know hired some cube ebikes at the local centre, they were getting KOM & QOM on almost every climb and she barely rides. Unbelievable how good those bikes are now.

^^^This. Did Dalby last week on one and Grizedale before that. Lapped plenty of people that definitely did not look like they were having fun.

I ride a road new gravel! bike for fitness. Will admit that something is missing, was thinking the other day it's probably the endorphins.

But the very red, very angry guy shouting at his mate to slow down going up an incline as we sailed past reminded me this was supposed to be about having fun.

It didn't look fun when I saw a fat bloke pushing his ebike back to the car cause his battery ran out. He must have had a really good workout and won the Strava

Why do you care how much of a "workout" someone you don't know is getting?
Just seems odd.

“It didn’t look fun when I saw a fat bloke pushing his ebike back to the car cause his battery ran out.“

I do group rides with my ebike turned off - I sold my old full-sus because the Levo was better in every way for my riding style. I use turbo mode to get there and back, rather than driving or pedalling unassisted as it saves time and is more fun.

But I am considerably more awesome than you.
