Hi,
Bit of a mission i know, but was wondering if anyone with Easton carbons bars (ec70/90) could measure the diameter of the bars roughly in the clamping zones for the brakes etc ?

They'll be the same size as any bars, won't they?
Just measured mine, 70mm.

70mm diameter? Do you have problems getting grips that big?

Sorry, I didn't read the OP properly and measured the circumference.
The diameter is 20mm, but like he ^ said all bars will be the same.
All handlebars should be 22.2mm at the lever/shifter clamp area
Well you'd think.
Im having a major headace getting my avid brakes to fit my bars. Sram sent me some info saying they only fit bars that are 21-22.2mm in diameter and my Easton EC70's are 22.35mm which is why they won't fit.
Granted they are 5 years old so i don't mind replacing them like for like, just want to make sure the current ones are gonna work.
Very odd, I have EC70s and have had no probles with Hope levers or XTR shifters. Pretty sure I had Juicy 5's on at one point...
same, i've only ever used Avids and never had a problem but the clamp on the XX brakes is really small so i guess the bars have to be perfect.
I have brand new ea70 bars (flat) and found that bar end plugs are too small to fit in and my avid elixir 3 brakes fit, but there is not a lit of bolt screwed in. Old ea50 and ea30 (non oversized) were fine.
Get a screwdriver in there and bend the clamp out a bit, 22.2mm to 22.35mm is minimal.
I had Elixer CR's on an EC90 bar no problem.
Can't bend the clamp, the lever body forms half of the clamp.
Druidh was that the single bolt type or the two bolt type clamp ?
The two bolt clamp - with the arrow showing the right way up ๐
I have a feeling you are doing something wrong, I have never heard of this problem, ever!
(Not that I know everything)
yeah i had Avids with the two bolt clamp before and they fitted fine.
The new XX brakes have a single bolt clamp which wraps half way round, insert the brake lever body which forms the other half of the clamp and stick the bolt in.
But i cant even get the clamp onto the bars hence the problem.
Just looked at the brakes online, definitely looks to me like you could persuade them on with a screwdriver.
"persuading on with a screwdriver" and carbon bars do not go together!

Obviously opening up the clamp with a screwdriver is done off the bars.....
Bit of an update.
I tried forcing the single bolt clamp on (not the matchmaker clamp) and it went on but i still can't get the brake lever body to line up in the clamp correctly.
It appears the bars being .15 too big in diameter is what is limiting how far the clamp will shut.
Spoke with Easton and they assure me the current range of bars are 22.2mm but it's an expensive mistake to buy some and find out they aren't.
Same problem with out of spec bars.
I just purchased EC90SL riser bars and they are too small. the component area measures 21.7 which is half a mm under standard at 22.2. My components Sram XX will not tighten as a result nor will my cannondale locking grips. I sent the bar into Easton and got another from the eBay seller. It's also 21.8. I have an EC90 flat bar without this problem and its 22.2.
There is either a problem at Easton or a counterfeit supplier out there and we're seeing these out of spec bars as a result. Call Easton.
