Bought a gravel bike a month or two back. Was specced GRX crankset but turned up with Easton EA90. Had half a dozen reasonably clean rides, washed with brush and hose, and I know not to jet wash into bearings etc.

Good forecast tomorrow, went to put bike in van tonight to find BB seized solid. Stripped cranks off. I don't have a BB tool for this yet. Took bearing seal off and it's full of brown sludge. Some work with WD and got it moving, greased up and should be okay for tomorrow (but feels a bit gritty). Seals looked intact. Putting cranks back on stripped the plastic collar grub screw applying no force at all. Not impressed one bit!

Are Easton BBs rubbish or did I get a bad one? Are the plastic axle adjustment collars meant to be single use?

Will try to get a replacement fitted before ride tomorrow, but I am concerned about that collar.

Easton=Raceface, who don't have a great rep for BBs

Is the bike a Nukeproof? Nukeproof do their own brand 30mm BB, which is absolute garbage, the above sounds like my experience with the Nukeproof one. They did refund it

No. That is part of the crank not the BB so be careful with it. They are not supposed to be cranked up tight, nor is the little bolt that holds it on. If it stripped then likely you over tightened it. You can replace it with a metal one from cane creek or muc-off.

Bike is a Nukeproof, but BB is branded Easton. Tempted to just say bugger it and buy a Hope one and never have to worry about it again. An Easton replacement is £60 which is quite pricy for something that fails so quickly. I'd rather shell out a bit more and have quality.

I really was ultra careful tightening the screw...
