Fancied a visit to Haldon for the first time this year, 0800 start & ideal conditions after the mist lifted, very quiet that early - but the local wildlife put in an appearance.

[img] [/img]

Black is back!

But I hope it's not finished yet as the drainage is poor & surface is very muddy.

Wide bars don't fit on some trails

Out in the hills for a couple of hours this afternoon. First ride with another human being in forever (I literally can't remember when the last time was)

We arrived in the Peak last night for a long weekend in the camper.
Up early this morning to hit the trails before they got busy.
Loads of riders around the Win Hill hot spots but the rest was quiet
Sun was out. Clear blue skies. Went back out for a walk and finished off with fish and chips

Out today on some of that gravel stuff that apparently doesn't exist in the UK.

Descent into the Ironbridge Gorge above Coalbrookdale
Vane Coppice

There were a few bluebells about just uphill of there, but they were the unwelcome Spanish variety, and looked rather washed-out anyway.

This blast from the past was lurking on a lane near home

It's glorious out there - not too warm (Garmin said 21 degrees max), dry dusty trails and not too much vegetation yet.

Local 30km/550m loop for me instead of sitting inside on zwift, ticked off a local climb which I've never been able to complete until today too, zwift training is working!

As optimal as conditions get at Gisburn today. (Mostly dry, occasional puddles)

5,300ft of glorious descending in the Wye valley, with lunch in Symonds Yat. . So nice to ride long (2-3,5 minute) trails that are not filled with braking bump.

I recognise most of those trails @jimmy748. Good too see the bluebells out.

We decided to give the busy bits of the FoD a miss and headed out to the Pludds. Great trails here, and no other bikes (just a few friendly dog walkers)

Really messed up the angle on the first one, quite a steep exit. Quality gurn tho

Some nice pics above.

I got back off a gig and just stayed around the local. Nice and quiet. Some raking. Nice and chilled.

Great to get out after a few days of man-flu. And a tasty ale in the sun to top it off.

We have had a couple more days of walking and riding in the Peak. Sun was out, trails were running fast and dry. Everyone out seemed to be smiling. Back at the camper with a well deserved large white Rioja

Some big old Yorkshire skies today, went solo from home upto the Wharfe valley, big loop and home. 78km, which is a heck of a ride for me and on that bike. Proper head space cleanse, well overdue.

Wear sunscreen kids!

Trying to post again 3rd time lucky...

I've also been out in the barren industrial wasteland with no MTB of interest whatsoever that is Yorkshire.

First Bivvy ride of the year. Was on my own nobody else was free, but it was still great. I even managed to sleep a bit

Setting off through Alwoodley golf course and out of Leeds

Approaching Bardsey

Bluebells out in force in Lindley woods. Bit dark on the photo.

Swinsty resr

Down past Scow Hall. A little bit further on than this, the trail and light became absolutely magical. Didn;t get a photo I just wanted to enjoy it.

Swinsty resr again

Up over the moor above Timble, light beginning to fade

Bivvy spot on Round Hill. lights of Ilkley down below

Brew time

Beamsley Beacon in the morning

New cheek. Very good.

Ilkley Moor - fantastic moorland trails

Beck desending Burley moor

Up onto the chevin. I ate a whole bag of jelly babies at this point.

Happy easter

Eccup

Pie shop was pen, rude not to

Bluebells out

It was a 2 pastie kind of day

Nearly home across soldier's field in Roundhay

So yeah, all in all a load of shit really.

Found ourselves in Jedburgh so thought we'd try the Justice Loop. Really enjoyed it (obviously not one for the No-gnar-in-yorkshire brigade).

Went to Glyncorrwg and did the newly refreshed and reopened Skyline loop. Really don't have the stamina for that length of ride currently so pretty much survived the last few miles back!

20220418-110632

Was a good trip down memory lane although I'm not impressed with the three new sections, slow rolling, rough and not really not in character with the rest of it. A few sections have also already fallen foul of the motorbike brigade too, won't be long before it's all trashed sadly.

Managed to fit in both gravel and road rides over the long weekend around other family commitments and things. Working on perfecting my local 2 hour gravel loop, think I’ve nearly got it sorted!

Gravel…

Road…
