A small engine would be a better option (in my case)

I'm not 100% sure what to ride at the Dyfi yet, IF I take the SS I'll be running 36:19 and thats on a 650B so equates to around 2:1.

I'd be taking 2:1 just to be on the safe side.
Not that I'm going. But if I was, like.

27 gears has it covered for me 22:32 --> 44:11. This seems to have worked well for me in the past.

I did it on 32:16 a few years ago and it was almost all rideable... the only section that I couldn't ride was a steepish bedrock climb that was rather wet and slippy... but then loads of riders with gears needed to get off and push up that bit as well!

The one thing I would have changed on the bike was the 80mm Pace forks which were way too noodley for the Dyfi...

I rode it 32:18 a couple of years ago and it was a bit spinny, but I did have a massive hangover from over doing it on arrival the night before, and was therefore glad of that gearing. I'd go 32:17 and drink less if I was doing it this year.

always been 32:16 when I've done it on SS, no point in a bigger rear sprocket, the Dyfi is all about the descents, just man up on the climbs, or accept life and push

You're thinking of doing the Dyfi on a singlespeed?

I've heard that's never been done before and if you attemp it you'll almost certainly die.
