Looking for feedback - anyone tried one?

Thinking of using one on the front of the JJ LWB +

Yep, great tyre, massive volume, really decent grip, tubless easily, roll well. Only issue is that to keep the weight down the sidewalls a bit thinner than say a dirt wizard, so if you are regularly hoofing through rock gardens then maybe not the tyre to choose, for general trail centre, mountainy stuff and woodsy single track then they're top banana. The other benefit it that because they are really supple you don't need to run super low pressure for a lovely ride feel.

Thanks for the thumbs up Tazzy

Only negative I've come across is rolling and weight (1.5Kg's)

I've just bought a WTB Ranger (3" and thought it to come up small, but it is indeed 76mm across the casing. That weighs in at just over 900gms. and although it's early days, seems a good tyre

Looking at it now the Crux measures 78mm (42 wide rim) so wonder if it's really much of a benefit for the coming season

Knobs look pretty aggressive so maybe better for more challenging mud/winter?

i've had mine on the front of my Jones for a year, or so. It's the tyre that persuaded me to abandon my 4.8" fat front! Nuff said 🙂

Hi,

Where do you plan to have it from? Quick googling not helpful at all. I might like to get rid of my 3.25 Buldozzer as it is terrible in auto steering...

Cheers!

I.

Blimey FRC - you said you'd never change that 4.8 set-up! 🙂

FYC - have you been able to compare it to a 3" Minion?

I've ran that through winter and found it to be OK for those conditions, but saw a big rolling difference changing to something with lesser knobs

Came a big came as a big surprise to me too 🙀 !!! After the big disappointment of the Knard, and Surly taking years to bring out anything else, it kind of killed 29+ for me. Until, that is, I clapped eyes on the Duro Crux, it just looked right, and it was properly huge. Going tubeless at the same time may have also been a factor. First spin of the cranks down a trail, and I pretty much knew 4.8" was over. I've ridden the fat tyre only twice in the past year.

i would say I didn't get to ride it much in the really bad mud this winter,  - mainly for health reasons 🙁

The Knard was a big fail. I tried one and it was summer and dusty, which the tyre coped with, but show it any kind of dirt mixed with water and it falls apart - mud is just impossible.

There's some decent 29+ rubber out there. Chronicle, Ranger, Chuppa to name a few

Hope you manage to get out more

UPDATE:

Ride Report - I'm impressed 🙂

Found an Italian site offering these tyres so ordered, and almost next day it arrived (8 euro postage)

Aired up fine, set pressure to 10 psi (front) and went out for a ride

The first thing I was looking at was rolling ability and I have to say it does very well both trail and tarmac

It wasn't long before I was leaning and pushing the bike into turns feeling the big knobs dig in and squirm

Half way through the ride after a few mile road section (~30mile XC) I finger checked the pressure and it had gone down to I would say 'almost flat' I had been stopped at a pub for one at that point, so how long it had been like that I don't know, but I hadn't felt it... It's still up this morning, so all's good

So, overall very good.
