A mate of mine is looking to swap his big ring with a chain device and bashguard, to stop his chain coming off on rough descents.
He has seen this and seems to tick all the boxes: http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/category/components/chain-guide/product/p30-dual-chainguide-10-37475
Gamut P30 Dual Chainguide.
Does anyone use one of these?
Anything else he should consider?
Also looking at this: http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Gamut-P30-Dual-Chainguide_35673.htm
It says 22-36t, I presume the 36 is the max teeth size and he would be ok with say a 34t middle ring.
I've been fittting and recommending these since Rowan got his first prototype version.
Much easier to fit, and quieter than most other devices on the market.
Make sure the grub screw that secures the roller mounting pin onto the backplate is nipped up when you fit it, and leave it until it needs bearings for the roller. (which are 2x 608 2RS, and really cheap to buy and easy to fit)
they are relatively new, and not in stock at crc yet
a cheaper alternative would be a bash ring (say £35 for a raceface one) and a blackspire stinger (£23)

Ok thanks.
I presume it will be fine with 32 or 34 tooth middle rings?

Ye that's certainly a good option, good reviews for the Stinger from people on CRC.
Superstar have just brought out a cheap chain device - just add a bash ring. Not sure I'd trust it though - had some bad experiences with cheap devices on my DH bike...
I have been using an MRP Long Range Patrol for about 2 years now and it has been excellent. I run a Gamut P30 single ring device on my dh bike and that is fantastic too. Out of the two I prefer the Gamut as it looks great but to be honest they both have worked flawlessly.

Ye I just saw that actually £16.99
