I'm looking spokes and nipples for a wheel build and it seems that most sites stocking black brass DT Swiss nipples only have the Prolock types, even though the DT Swiss site shows standard ones as well.

So does anyone know where the standard ones are available? Also if anyone has used the Prolock ones are they still workable once the thread lock has activated (and how long do you get before it locks)?

I've never seen black non-Prolock brass nipples - they might be a special thing from DT that's not normally imported. You can get black alloy nipples of course.

The threadlock doesn't set as such, it's just always sticky. I'm a bit of a Luddite and think that if you need to use threadlock on your nipples then you've not built your wheel tight enough, but opinions on this vary ๐Ÿ˜‰

It's not about not building it right if that's all they do. Could go for another brand or alloy but don't they round easier?

Alloy do round more easily and can corrode, but with a little oil and built with care they're fine - as long as you use decent DT or similar.

Cheers for the advice. The ones I've just disassembled were alloy and showing signs of corrosion but they've been on there for 2 years so to be expected I guess.
