So I've Just bought an XM180 to go on the Epiphany, how good are they, and how do they compare to, say, an RP23?

Personally I took off my DT shock and replaced it with an RP23. It seemed to lack damping and was really hard to set up the correct air pressure.

I didnt rate mine, replacing with a pushed fox after a while
As above the damping seemed poor felt a little like an air spring with very little control.

is this not one of those questions that should really be asked before buying the item?
