Dropper posts with smaller seat post

I need to replace the dropper on my lads bike - it’s a Giant Contact Switch 150mm. It’s on a Giant Trance but I can’t push the post down far enough for him as it catches on the bend in the frame.

Is my best option to go external? Or would reducing the travel of the post shorten the part that goes in the frame?

im guessing if they do a 140 or a 130 would be pretty cool, it’s a 30.9 dia

125 mm? Something like:

I use 125 on all my daughters bikes 🙂

So would that have a smaller post to insert into the frame? I presume it would

Shorter drop posts generally have shorter insertion lengths than longer drop posts, but not all are equal. OneUp droppers give you the greatest amount of drop for the shortest insertion length - but they also have a smaller stack collar plus the saddle clamp design buys an extra amount of drop too, e.g. I've managed to fit a 230mm OneUp in a frame that previously maxed out with a 200mm Brand X.

Brand X posts themselves have reasonably short insertion lengths for the amount of drop. A comparable TranzX 150 needs greater insertion length than a Brand X 150 - using Brand X rather than TranzX allowed a 150mm dropper in my youngest's new bike, with the post slammed in the frame. Not sure how the Giant posts compare.

@astura if you go on the Ascend website you can enter dimensions and it’ll give you your options. Measure from where the top of the clamp is on your present post to the bottom, when on full insertion and that should give you some idea. Beware though that a limited drop might prevent the post from going down low enough for your lad.
He’ll soon grow though, when I was a lad (10) I had an adult Coventry Eagle several sizes too big that I rode off road and I’ve still fathered children!

I've got a barely used Brand-X dropper I bought for my youngest's old bike. External routing, 99% sure its a 30.9 and was used on a tiny frame. I can check the insertion depth and drop etc if you're interested? Wouldn't be looking for much for it - its like brand new though.
