Go go gadget bike. It would be able to convert from bmx to DH to touring bike to fix wheel town bike and everything in-between. Change colours as well would be nice but not essential.

The problem with a dream bike is dream upkeep. I couldn't trash a wheel and replace with a £1000 wheel.

So, I'll take my new Bird Aether7 thanks

Dream MTB would be an Ibis Mojo HD5 with full on bling. I have the HD3 but there’s a couple of tweaks they’ve made which make me think it would be perfect. And I’m currently waiting on my dream Gravel bike which is a Mason Bokeh GRX Di2. Been waiting since January for it but won’t be here until at least mid June ☹️

It’s also very difficult to drop down from such lofty bikes to more modest/less dreamy ones, even if functionally they are the same/better due to advances in geo/trickle down tech, or to improve them any further will be ruinously expensive.

I found working in the bike industry very helpful for that. I had the full XTR, DT Swiss top end, custom 953 or Ti etc and as nice as it was it didn't that do much for my riding enjoyment. Great geometry and fit, good tyres and a few bits that work for your own personal tastes or quirks in riding and that's it, I'm happy. I have dream rides and trips and locations in mind 100x more than dream kit.

Dream bikes though... for me it's something beautiful that comes out on sunny Sundays, something high-end that doesn't live under a layer of dried mud. Full Record 10s on an early 90s Colnago Master in Lampre colours, threaded forks and skinny bars, all NOS. £££££.
Or a Sturdy custom all-road rando bike for 650Bs. I'm a bit more grounded with MTBs, my Ti Jones is a very nice bike but parts go on it to get trashed in the end, it's all about function. When the Ti version dies I'll have a steel one and that'll do just fine.

My dream bike is one that stops me feeling tired, pays the bills so I don't have to work, makes all the cars that get too close break down with a bike icon flashing on their dashboard, stops the rain, and drys up the mud.

My dream bikes have changed as the years and technology have progressed.

I'm lucky to have my dream bike for now, built to the spec that I wanted.

Got one of mine already! I adore my Spur, it does everything I want it to and way more, the fastest but also most fun bike I've owned by far. It'd be nice to have some even lighter wheels and a 200mm Reverb AXS whenever they do one, and I will get round to sorting out some oil slick ti bolts for the stem one day, but aside from that, it's perfect as is!

I agree, but you're kind-of implying that the serious gear freaks actually ride their super-spendy steeds. I think that's unproven at best.

For my MTBs I just need a decent frame (metal is fine), very good suspension, decent wheels, tyres and brakes and a functional drivetrain. Anything beyond that is wasteful in terms of my overall budget (having to maintain multiple bikes).

For road: a nice carbon frame, decent wheels about 1.5kg and Ultegra with discs - just to keep the overall weight around 8kg.

Diminishing returns are even sharper in road than MTB, to my eyes.

Don't think I have a dream MTB really. That Spur above is really nice or a Hope HB 130 would be nice but I don't think I have one that I lust after or I think I'd find some sort of way to get it.

I do have a nicely spec'd AM9 which if you told me I'd have a few years back I wouldn't believe you so I'm pretty happy.

I think the fact MTB trends move pretty fast and can look pretty dated after a few years doesn't help.

Now I'd love a Bianchi with some nice parts hanging off it but I think that's just because my grandad always loved Bianchi bikes and it stuck with me.

My dream bike would be a slightly higher end version of the bike i've just pre-ordered - a privateer 141 but i'd like it a bit more refined (and a few lbs lighter wouldn't hurt) like the Raaw Madonna but 140 rear, 160 front built with EXT forks and Storia coil shock, and a good mix of strong but posh components such as EE wing cranks, xtr shifting, EX511/chris King wheelset, maybe some of those Thomson ti bars if they still do them, trickstuff brakes,AXS Reverb....etc etc
As it stands i'm pretty excited to be getting the 141 - converting the 36's to 160mm with the vorsprung smashpot kit and hoping to get an EXT Storia for the rear (it's going to be a lump but i want coil), the only other instant spec change will be replacing the Hans Dampf for a SG Big Betty - no idea why a UK company like Privateer would think the Hans Dampf was appropriate!

dream bike vs best bike for me are two different things.

1st was a liteville 301 the second was a stumpjumper. Im lucky to have had both.

i would like all of these bikes

… and a big garage

I worked in between jobs once for a company that created and installed very high end garages (cabinets, ceilings, floors, everything) We went to one chap who had  a line-up of Santa Cruz that would shame a bike shop. He had about 25-30 (something like that) couple of the same bikes in different colours, claimed that he rode all of them. Not only that, a good percentage of them were full XTR and so on...Amazing collection.

Own my dream bike, Geometron G1, proper bit of kit and brilliant everytime I ride it. No carbon to worry about cracking (seen far too many bikes, bars and wheels recently to backup my distaste for its use in the mtb industry)

The Banshee Prime in my garage right now but change...

Drivetrain - XTR 12 speed

Cranks - Eewings

Shock - EXT Storia LOK or Custom tuned DHX2?

Fork - EXT Era or whack a Grip2 Damper in the Bomber?

Brakes - Trickstuff Maxima

Bars and Stem - Chromag OSX35 and BZA (currently running Chromag OSX and Ranger)

Wheels - Chris King Hubs and nice rims

Dropper - One Up 180mm

Tyres - MaxxGrip Assagai upfront, Maxterra DHF out back

Nice SirHC - i had my eye on the classifieds for a Geometron before i hit the pre-order on my 141, there were a few G16's but the only G1 was a shockless XL which was just a touch too big and once i'd factored in a nice shock it would've been way over budget even second hand.

@stevede.
Got a G16 in large with Storia and coil 36 up for sale if that interests you?
Replaced it with a G1 which although nice isn't all that different to ride than the G16.
Current "dream " build. Though it's not that dreamy as I couldn't run to Trickstuff brakes and Eewing crank.

I would've been very interested in a couple of months time, exactly the type of bike that i'm after. The pre-order of the 141 has bought me time to get the rest of the cash together - i will be keeping my eye out though as the 141 deposit is refundable.

Was going to say a full AXS Transition Spur. Seems someone already has one and posted it 😉

But would still need a big bike for occasional use, which while its an occasional treat is the highlight of my riding year... so would I then resent riding a perceived inferior quality but more appropriate bike on those rides?

I have mine, a BTR Ranger. Pretty sure it’s not high on many people’s lists but I’ve wanted one for around six years, so that makes it my dream bike. No amount of high end parts can substitute a hand built frame that you’ve had a say in the build process.

Colnago Mexico, in red obvs or an old steel Gios Torino, obvs in blue. Timeless classics both of them.

I think my dream build would have to be based around a Last Tarvo or Cinto, incredible looking frame.

As for the build I would go Chris King hubs on either ex511 rims or maybe carbon, EXT suspension, GX AXS shifting but with Garbaruk cassette and Chainring, Eewing cranks, AXS dropper if they did one in 200mm, Oneup bars and Trickstuff brakes.

I think that would definitely be a build you would need to win the lottery for though!

My dream - what I call my race retirement everything bike - was a Turner Flux, but ultimately i want something that’ll do everything most of the trails we all ride can throw at it - Tracey’s Specialised build and Transition Spurs have always appealed to me.

However the thought of all the testing needed to throw that kind of money at one bike expecting it to be around for a good fills me with a kind of “can’t be arsed” attitude. So, If I has to buy one tomorrow on the basis my Spark has been so good to me it’s probably be a Genius, although that’s not a dream it’s a lazy and easy purchase.

And and Enigma Excel.

Definitely on my dream bike list.

The best bike I've ever ridden.

Burf's personal whip, at a demo a few years back. It just hard something...

I've got relatively conservative tastes, so I'd say the Stooge MK4 I bought last year IS my dream bike 🙂

Chucked some nice bits on it...
Paul's Klamper brakes and Love Levers, Middleburn cranks + Uberbike steel ring, funky S&M BMX stem, Surly Sunrise bars, Brookes Cambium, Stans Flow Mk3 wheelset, Rohloff tensioner for my dingle speed setup.

There's a few more additions I fancy. Maybe a Royce Ti BB, lighter dropper post (though the Brand X works very well), a Rohloff rear wheel for when I want gears, but that's about it.

My dream bike changes as tech and geo evolves... But currently it's a custom ti frame that's being built for me at the mo. Parts are all top end and already accumulated.

Btr pinner for me, I love the way it looks, the way it's been engineered and the passion burf seems to have for what he does.
I'll never be able to justify a new frame so keeping my eyes peeled for one coming up for sale.
That's if a cotic rocket/max or Stanton fs or swarf 155 don't take my money first.

I'm a big believer of UK engineering and building.
