If you had the funds which 5" travel carbon frame would you go for and why ? After some ideas so that I can save up....currently ride a cannondale rize 140mm which I like but want to lighten the frame now ...I have upgraded other kit already not necessarily the lightest but I like it...Cheers and Looking forward to suggestions ๐
SC Tallboy LTC ๐
Are you aware that generally the difference between a carbon frame and an Alu frame (same models) is usually less than 400gr ?
Well its a daft question as I don't
But with loads of cash I'd buy the carbon Fuel ex. As I my AL fits so well and meets my needs. Not to much travel locally, enough in other places......
dream: 650b Scott spark..next year maybe?
real: the v2 26" Spark is a very capable bike that you can ride most things on!
Happily, I have one ๐
I'd be wanting a Ibis Ripley or a SC Tallboy LT.
Lovely looking 29er carbon frames.
I will have one.. at some point.. I hope.
I have mine ๐ blur trc.
Do Pronghorn do a carbon?
Mojo SLR/Mojo HD 140
Pivot Mach 5.7c
Santa Cruz TRc
I have a Mojo SL that is brilliant, but would trade up any of these quite happily ๐
Dream: SB66c (perhaps in the summer)I know its 6" but hey its gorgeous!
Reality: Transition Bandit which is superb by the way ๐
5" travel carbon dream machine?
Yeti ASR-5c
Weeksy bit more to it than just the weight though no?
Carbon bikes are lovely things to ride regardless of the weight issue.
Like I've said in you other thread, Santa Cruz Blur TRc because it's a hoot to ride.

TBH i dunno mate, not ridden a carbon. For me there's just too much risk associated with carbon ownership for me to risk it, despite the fact that like most other people, i do adore the aesthetics of carbon. But the snapping/knackering issues would and do worry me too greatly to buy one.

I went with the Yeti, I really liked the blur trc but was a bit more money. No regrets though the asr5c it is a flyer up and down, plus slack enough to really push it harder than a 5" bike should allow.
In my experience carbon isn't just about the weight saving, I prefer the feel of the ride.
I remember when they said Aluminium frames were risky and would snap.
(Anything badly built will fail)

Oooh, my first double post ๐
If you take the frame material out of the equation, the answer is much easier for me to answer.
A Nicolai Helius AC please. Any carbon framed bike would be less desirable to me tbh.

Using that argument, i could send you to 10 threads from 10 different large scale companies who badly make frames from carbon then ๐
It's not the snapping as such for me, but impact breaks etc. We (mostly) all fall off sometimes and i just worry that carbon would crack under these circumstances a lot easier.
I too went with the Yeti ASR5c. Great bike and not looking to change it anytime soon. Light, stiff, strong, climbs well, descends even better, etc, etc.
@dan45a - what do you think to the Mavic Crossmax STs? Are they worth the extra spends?
I'm thinking about getting some for my Yeti to replace the Pro II/Flow wheelset I have now. Although I like the Pro II/Flow wheelset, having used that combination before on previous bikes, I don't think they pick up that well/feel a little draggy/don't accelerate as well as I'd like.
Kingofbiscuits - I'm loving the crossmax st's they won't be as stiff as the flow rims nor give quite as good tyre profile( I have set on my alpine 160) but the st's are plenty stiff and strong enough for trail riding, they accelerate very quickly the engage is def quicker than pro2 evo hub. Plus they look the nuts to! Go for it ๐
Cool. Cheers @dan45a
I've never noticed the pick up/engagement of the Pro II Evos before but it's quite noticeable with the Yeti. Perhaps due to it being light and stiff??
I certainly felt that the standard DT Swiss wheelset on the demo engaged and rolled quicker.
I'll have to keep an eye out for a good deal on the STs as they're seriously expensive.
Anything yeti or mojo.
