My Alfine 11 has become very draggy and I'm wondering if it could be due to lack of use or the (relatively) cold weather.
I've not ridden it for 3 weeks and for that time it's been sitting in my garage, coils it just need a ride out to get the oil recirculated over everything?
It freewheels freely so was also thinking about doing an oil change as a 1st step.
Any suggestions oh wise mechanics of STW?
Cold temp's do make them more draggy as the oil viscosity increase effects friction, if it seems to be freewheeling OK then there's probably nothing too amiss. The oil seems to "disappear" i.e. leak out... after a while. a drain, flush & refil would do no harm. I have used 80w car gearbox oil in my 11 for a few years with no issues & TQF auto trans oil in my 8 speed. If constantly used in cold temp's I would probably go to TQF in the 11 also.
My Rohloffs feel draggy if left for a while or its cold, but not noticed it on the Alfine.
