I have 2 sets of Hope Hoops with Stans rims (1 set ZTR Flow / 1 set ZTR Crest).
Both sets are great wheels but seem very draggy compared to several other wheelsets on identical bikes...
This is noticeable when swapping to mates' bikes for example and just freewheeling along the trail - with identical tyres of course.
e.g 3 of us on identical bikes/frames today, both of my mates bikes rolled noticeably quicker than mine. One is using Stans Flows on Superstar Trizoid hubs and the other using Shimano XT M776 AM wheelset. Both wheelsets were smoother/faster rolling.
This isn't the first time I've heard complaints of Hope hubs' 'dragginess'.. has anyone had the same or found a cure e.g. better quality bearings?
Hope (pre Evo) Pro IIs are pretty draggy hubs. Always have been. The Evo versions seem a lot less draggy
To notice that sort of difference while riding the drag would have to be huge, it'd be immediately noticable with the wheel out of the bike if it was the cause. Yes they're a relatively draggy hub but it's a tiny difference- imagine recreating the speed difference with the brakes then turning the wheel by hand with the brakes on, you'd notice it.
draggy? Not when the bearings are bed in.
But noisy - yes. Hope have managed to make the evo even more deafening than the pro 2.
