Hello bikers, new to forums with a specific question to you. Just moved to Manchester from Birmingham and searching for a good, checked track to train downhill biking. Do not know anyone here and any place here so it is even harder to find a proper place. So the question to you is: can you recommend a good place to train downhill in or near Manchester?

Loads of places in Shropshire, farmer John's and more. Try trail forks, not sure what your link is for.

Farmer Johns is probably the best place to go and meet like minded folk and branch out from there. Good set up and a they are always working on the course keeping it fresh.

And seeing as no-one has bothered to link to it...

It's near Marple, you can get the train out to it from Manchester.

Which side of Manchester are you on?

Dovestones in Saddleworth has some tracks, although you will need to ride / push up.

Havok Bike Park nr Todmorden is good
http://www.havokbikepark.com/
It's easier to get there if you have transport but doable by train
(the road ride from the station would be good traing ;-))

Slight hijack (sorry), but is farmer johns the kind of place your average trail rider can go and try some of the easier stuff or is it all dh bikes and massive gap jumps?

Some DH stuff in Macc Forest.

You'll need to join the group on FB as some of the lines have chains across and you'll need a key holder to open them, or if your lucky, you'll get your own key.

FB linky -

If you have a car there is limited parking right near the tracks, otherwise its a 20 minute pedal from the train station.

Oh, and it would be helpful if you said where your based and if you have transport ๐Ÿ˜‰

Right, this is a spammer so don't click on that link.

He posted an identical thread on the Trail Scotland forum and clearly they're trying to get you to click the link in the OP

Yes, Farmer Johns is a great shout. I will be signing up for the year again soon. They also host a 4 race series during the year and the atmosphere is great. Maccy forest DH runs are good also.
