Hi all

Wife and I are going to be driving from Munich to Milan in July, planning to stop off en route for some riding (road and/or mtb). Any recommendations on where to go/what to ride? Or if not on bikes, anything fun you'd recommend doing?

(We were in Riva del Garda last year and may well stop off there again)

Thanks!

B

We're doing a week of road riding end of June. Basic itinerary is:

Classic cols: Sella, Pardoi, Fedaia, Giau, Tre Croci, Tre Cime, Falzarego
Sella Ronda options
Excursion into Austria and ride the Glossglockner
Monte Zoncolan
A handful of lesser known but fantastically beautiful Dolomites climbs including, Passo Zovo, Sella di Razzo, Col Mendader

Livigno has some great trails and hosted the mtb world cup a few years ago .

Stop off in Bormio and do both road and mtb. Bike hire available in bormio. Do the stelvio pass on a road bike. Then head over to livigno to do uplift stuff and / or bike park. Route to Milan can be from livigno into Switzerland and down through st moritz then along West Bank of lake como (doesn't touch a Swiss mway therefore no need for a vignette). Some amazing roads that way - was there on a motorbike last summer.

I guess it depends on your route too - Italian Alps has lots of good stuff. Stelvio, then if you go down Bellagio way you can do Ghisallo and Muro Di Sormano.

Be flexible!
July 2012 Val Gardena was sunny & beautiful (as you'd expect)
July 2013 it was under 2-3 metres of snow and lots of avalanche warnings in the mountains
