[Closed] Does anyone know Luminous lights ?

Instead of taking my advice, the battery was placed in a location on the bike that I've never seen a light battery placed, before. On the down tube , directly behind the front wheel

Mounting a battery (and lamp!) inside a fishtank also seems like a bad idea but it didn't stop it working or someone putting a youtube video on their website to show this was possible. 😉

Well I don't think either party has come out of this well, but I'm backing MTG, as Luminous seems to rant and ignore facts, rather than admit there was a possible problem. I'd say he's done his own reputation far more damage than Graham did!

Mrs MTG feels guilty about starting an argument on here now. She doesn't use the internet much and doesn't realise they happen all the time. She still thinks I'm famous because I'm on Youtube.
She's checking dates of emails and cheques to back up her feelings of dissatisfaction with Luminous. I don't know whether to post them here as justification for starting this thread, or leave it to avoid dragging this on any longer.
There was an undelivered parcel note in her letterbox after all. After not getting replies to previous emails, she had given up checking the letterbox every day and it sat amongst the junk mail all weekend.
If Luminous had emeiled her on the 13th with the tracking number, or just to say it was in the post, none of this would have happened.

The overall issue will never be resolved.
I can't prove I didn't remove any waterproofing, Luminous can't prove I did.
All we've got is the balance of probabilities.
Which is more likely, that I spent £300 on a light, then deliberately removed the waterproofing, or that Luminous didn't waterproof it properly in the first place ?
As he seems more intent on mocking my lack of knowledge about waterproofing techniques than explaining what he does to the batteries, we'll never know.

Same with the charger. It just sat on a table at my house, then on a different table at Mrs MTG's house. It can't be proven either way how any damage occurred.

A Google images search for Downtube Battery Mounting shows I'm not the first person to try it. My cheap rear light catches the spray off the rear tyre and is still working.

Running a business with no internet banking. Yes, I thought that was odd too.

Oh dear, Mrs MTG is angry now that she thinks she is getting the blame.

I'll get all the dates off her when we've got more time, but she posted the cheque to Luminous on 21st January and the money went out of her account on 6th February.
Not surprisingly, by 15th March and no email about delivery from Luminous, she had more or less given up hope and we thought posting on here might be more productive than another unanswered email.

What we think might have happened on Friday 15th is that she checked the post in the morning, then a different parcel van dropped the undelivered item note in the box later in the day.

Five weeks after cashing the cheque, an email with the tracking code from Luminous would have saved all this trouble.

FWIW, I back Luminous, simply because MTG has the word 'midland' and 'trailquest' in his name, neither things I'm a fan of. You may have well called yourself SouthernSpeedWalkingGraham.

You're lucky my father in law and a mate are called Graham otherwise I'd be suggesting the death penalty.

How would the op call luminous, he doesn't have a number on his website, only an email address. So email would appear to be the preferred option for contacting him. So in this case the telephone probably isn't a very effective way of communicating.

And his first post on this whole nasty affair [i]Contact me through the usual channels and have a word with the mods to have this thread AND my name removed from here !.[/i] doesn't present the guy in a very good light. I don't think poor service should be swept under the carpet.

The registrant is a non-trading individual who has opted to have their address omitted from the WHOIS service.

...would make me very nervous about buying from them. FWIW I've had similar experiences to Graham and although I didn't need to go the route of trial-by-Singletrackworld, it did leave a bitter taste. I see the same lights coming onto the market every year, but under a different brand. The businesses that look after their customers will survive.

If I had a similar problem with a Fox fork, I'd get hundreds of replies, or more likely, I'd be told that the same question had already been asked hundreds of times.

I believe I am the only person in the world to snap a Ward Industries titanium pedal spindle, drown a Luminous light battery, snap two Gates CentreTrack belts and wreck a Time Atac XS pedal bearing in three days.

Luminous is questioning MTQG's proof that he didn't remove the waterproofing.....where is the proof that he dispatched the light/battery waterproofed?. I'm not suggesting that he purposely sent it out like that but surely he could have made a mistake?.

Anyway, I'll add him to my list of people to never deal with!.

If the battery is actually water or even weather proof and confirms with European regulations / standards as I imagine a product being sold for a not small price would do. Should it not have the corresponding IP rating quoted on it and within the accompanying literature? .

On another note, I didn't know anyone under 60 actually used cheques anymore!?!?!?!?

Luminous- the key point is the waterproofing, if you can clear that up then the thread will be yours on a knockout, at the moment it's going to points and who can ever guess the result when that happens?

Or, square go behind the bike sheds after school.

This is a great spitting match. FWIW this is my one penny contribution. I have always believed that if any item is sold to a customer then the warranty belongs to that customer. If it then becomes second hand by what ever means, then it nullifies the warranty. Of course, I could be wrong.

My second pennies worth is that I know both the OP and his OH and they are both very honest people and would never complain about something unless there was justification.

I've lost count of how many rounds there have been so can someone advise me what round we are on so I can hold up a placard and ring the bell?

Funnily enough, no. But I reckon it'd be a scream. They say first impressions count. If you're wearing a track suit and trainers, you're guilty. Chavs only wear trainers and track suits so they can run away from the police etc, otherwise they'd dress like law abiding citizens.

The battery was sent for a thorough, independent, investigation, during which the waterproofing seal was removed. Once the battery was opened up, corrosion was found, indicating water ingress had occurred.

A new battery was [b]given[/b] to the OP at no cost to him. A point he consistently ignores and leaves out of his posts while complaining, although as many a poster on this thread has pointed out. Hes got his new battery, he has his charger waiting for him to collect.

WMB tested and remarked on the battery waterproofing.
What else am I reasonably expected to do.

Luminous, please take this as the friendly advice it is intended to be. I'm sure there are lots of happy users of your light which is great, but it's how a business deals with unhappy customers that makes or breaks them. You might not think MTG is in the right (and to be honest I didn't at the start of all this) but you're only making it worse for yourself with your insistence on putting all the blame at his door.

Sort it out one-one-one with MTG (by phone if possible) and then no doubt he'll be on here telling us what a nice chap you are after all and that we should all buy your lights.

Hang on... This just sounds like you're saying that the OP must have tampered with the battery because it leaked? What signs of tampering were there other than the leak?

So the only way that water could get into the battery would be by the OP damaging the seal? It is absolutely impossible that the sealing was faulty, or the battery pack was assembled with moisture present, or there is a leak in the heatshrink or that the corrosion was due to other problems?

All batteries are waterproofed before dispatch.

And 100% leak tested?

You claim that all batteries are waterproof, and as mentioned show a video of one fully submerged on your website, how could the OP "drown his battery"

Well that's not correct. Where have I ever said MTQG [b]deliberately[/b] tampered with, or removed the seal ? I haven't said that. What has happened is that MTQG has accidentally broken his battery while using it.
Warranty doesn't cover accidental damage by the user. But as a token of goodwill, I replaced the battery FoC.

[EDIT] - Luminous, your next post should be along the lines of "I've spoken with Graham and agreed with him that this was all a silly misunderstanding. He now has a fully working set of lights, we've shaken hands and we can all move on"

directly behind the front wheel. The OP can not prove that he didn't break the seal although he has a history of breaking his equipment

And a lot here -

Batteries are fine. Graham broke the seal, and placed the battery on the down tube, behind the front wheel , claiming some guff about CoG.

Can I just say I am on neither side but don't like backtracking and lies.

I, however, would have been 100% happy with the new battery and charger.

It doesn't really matter why the seal failed.

It would also appear that if the OP had checked his post before coming on here and complaining, he would have found that they had missed a delivery, and a card had been left.

So he actually had the fully working set of lights after all, and wasn't "stuck with" anything as he suggested he was earlier.

What Neal says, it seems to me luminous did the right thing, and if it had been me in Graham's place I would have been very happy with the new battery and charger. This should not have been aired on a forum

Reminds me that I must send my Lumi battery off for some tlc. It needs some attention after 5 1/2 yrs...

Edit - erm, perhaps I should clarify. It's Lumicycle, not Luminous.

And while I'm editing I should probably add that it seems a bit of 6 of one, half a dozen of the other....

Luminous perhaps could have communicated better, mtg should have checked his post a bit more thoroughly. And a brand new replacement battery is a great resolution to this, really - perhaps just a shame it became so messy.
