Reading that gives me enormous faith in Specialized.

Two forks out of 14,200 break, and they recall the lot - how many companies would do that? Granted, a lot of smaller companies simply couldn't afford to recall an entire production run.

Spesh have done very well here, from talking to people in the industry. I know of one retailer who did a massive recall on these a couple of months ago.

organic 355 - I'm afraid not!

Description: This recall involves the following nine, 2011 model year bicycles with Advanced Group carbon forks: Sirrus Expert, Sirrus Comp, Sirrus Elite, Vita Expert, Vita Comp, Vita Elite, Vita Elite Step Thru, Tricross Sport, Tricross, and Tricross Comp. All bicycles have the brand name โ€œSpecializedโ€ on the lower front frame tube. The model name is on the top tube.

Sold at: Authorized Specialized Retailers nationwide from June 2010 through August 2011 for between $700 and $2,000.

@honourable george

its more than 2 forks - in the past 3 weeks working for a big Specialized dealer I have replaced 26 forks on different bike affected by the recall.

8 of these had cracks around one or both of the brake bosses

on 4 of the other bikes' forks, the brake post pulled out of the fork boss whilst removing the brake - with the thread damaged and cracks around the boss area

Well just as useless as their Specialized BG shoes.

@esher - right. The website above suggest they're only aware of two failures. Sounded too good to be true.

two reports of the brake component disengaging from the carbon fork.

i read that as actually breaking away - i guess dealers found plenty more with cracks with potential for breaking away

What, like my properly battered Sonomas I bought in 2003, what have done many thousands of miles, in all sorts of conditions, and bin proper comfy all that time? What have bin the most comfy cycling shoes I've ever owned, so much so that I will have no hesitation in replacing them with a pair of Tahoes which felt super-comfy in the shop when I tried them on?

Spesh stuff is fantastic, proper value for money, well designed and well made, unlike most other cycling gear.

Maybe it's just you what's useless, Hora? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Or my 2007 BG Sport shoes which have survived longer than any other SPD shoe I've ever had, and look like they'll last another 2-3 years yet.......

BG Sports are the only Spd shoes that I get on with. Sadly they start seperating at the heel/sole after a while. First pair lasted 4yrs and the next 3 (changed the design I see) last approx 1yr each.

Oh, and I forgot; my late 90s El Gatos which I've still got and use on the road bike. The only 'race' shoe which I could actually wear, as all others were incredibly uncomfortable.

Or my BG Sport mitts, comfiest gloves I've ever owned?

Or my S1 and it's replacement S-Works helmet; super light and comfy?

First pair lasted 4yrs and the next 3 (changed the design I see) last approx 1yr each.

That's because they're not designed to be walked in as much as you do in them....

Spesh BG shoes, years of faultless service, last for ever, nicely made, high quality, spares available for years afterwards. Love em!

Sweet, my Tricross is the 09 with the zert forks, and apparently perfectly fine to continue abusing.
Thanks for the heads up.

Have you seen the comments on the linked story? FFS!

manny - 09/23/11 - 1:53pm

thatโ€™s happens because is not made in the USA

Eddy - 09/23/11 - 12:03pm

Thanks Specialized for producing a death trap

Nother American made EVER fails or is recalled and 2 failures is hardly suggesting a death trap. They'd love the Daily Mail!!
