Very close to buying some new brakes and I already have some xtr shifters and I have heard there are problems with certain shifters is it a big deal/unworkable?

you mean fouling of the shifter 'window' on brake ? in which case remove shifter window.

get some match makers and problem is sorted - £20 @merlincycles (you might have to phone, as don't seem to be on the site)

yep windows off little cap should be snuggled behind them the hole time. then matchmakers, they will look sweet. i think we might have a set? will look tomorrow.

XTR don't have a 'window' so what gets it the way exactly?

I run XT with my X2 and have previously run SLX. I just removed the 'window'. Problem solved.
