...for which you need a HRM (preferably Suunto, 'cos they generously give me mine for free, so you should support them) and an accurate bike speed readout.
Find a nice hard climb around 400m in length where your speed over the ground would be about 8kph. Climb the hill at 8 kph, noting your heart rate. Cool down, then climb at 8kph but this time run alongside the bike and push it. Note your heart rate.
For me::
Cycling 145bpm - 167bpm average 163. Running pushing bike 148bpm - 157bpm average 154.
What does this prove, other than runners are kickass at climbing hills? You tell me ๐
I reckon you need a few runs to get a better result, but certainly an intresting one.
I'm a runner, and run XC as much as possible, including some nice long uphills and I absolutely suck at climbing on a bike. I'm far faster on offroad climbs on foot ๐ณ
Perhaps I should try cyclocross?
interesting?
I'm pretty sure my bike HR would be lower, by a fair bit!
yes it is ahwiles, especially if you're interested in economy of effort.
let me guess. you polish your ebay special, you don't actually ride?
Edit: to correct awful spelling mistake ๐ณ
There's geekery. And then there's this
