Are there any FS Konas for less than £1k?

Giant Trance X4 looks reasonable.

Yeah MBR reckoned the Trance X4 was the best of those tested.

The FSR XC was marked down because they reckon the rebound damping on the X-Fusion shock doesn't stay put. Once they bodged it into place, they said they'd have rated it 10.

HL FS Boardman purely for the spec - 120/20mmBT Rebas and elixirs sell it for me. Its not a heavy bike either.
If you dont like the frame you can change it. Obviously you'd wait for the year to be up if is C2W. 😉

Trance X4 seems to tbe the darling of the tests, much nicer looking frame than the boardman, and a fantastic platform to upgrade from.

KHS got a good review in MBR also! Although they have fitted Hayes brakes with Avid levers which I thought was really odd...

KHS XC-604 is a good buy. The 2010 model has got lots of nice bits.

I'm with ahwiles on this one. My old man has the spesh and it is a nice bike to ride, the boardman isn't as nice but for the money has better equipment.

It also depends on what you want ie a decent frame with components that will get you by that you can then upgrade for better quality stuff or go for good quality parts and a mediochre frame

At this price, better equipment = cheaper frame.

Bike companies only have a certain amount to spend on bikes at any price point, so for £1K you either get a decent frame with entry level kit or a cheap frame with decent kit hanging off it to entice people to buy. If a £1K new full-suss bike has great kit on it, you've got to ask why the frame was so cheap.

I'd always say buy the best frame you can, you'll only want to upgrade the other bits over time anyway, either when they wear out, or the shiny bug bites you.

I'd still say a grand will get you a much better hardtail than full-suss.

Driller thanks. I have a hardtail. I think your wrong you can get some great frames at the £1K price point with some good kit on. Just because they are not price matching Spesh, Giant and Trek does not mean they are no good.
