Advice needed please.
Bought a new hope stainless bb this week online, and on receiving it today I’m short one centre tube.
I ordered the 68/73mm 30mm axle option, the image shows cups and centre tube, and the description talks about the centre tube (and not in a “you need to buy one” way).
Should I be grumpy that I have to buy more stuff, or grumpy that I’ve been short changed?
Oh, and already a little grumpy that I needed to buy a special tool and DUB adaptors separately. I’m £97 into a bottom bracket that has not internal sealing...
Mrs stu has a bike that came new with a 30mm Hope bb and there's no center tube in that.
The 68/73 30mm one isn't pictured with a centre tube on the B2B site.
My 30mm hope bb didn’t. Pretty sure they don’t. My old race face one didn’t either in 30mm version
Not hard to find thing out with Hope! their website is good
BB30 Threaded no tube
Looks like most BB30 do not have centre tubes
No tube on the 30mm
So if 24mm spindles "require" a central protection tube why do 30mm spindles appear not to?
Well hot flippin-diggety-dang. That’s an excellent result.
This means I can fit said BB and use it this weekend.
Thank you all for your input. That’s saved me chasing up with the vendor as well.

Well that is an excellent question. Since it doesn’t come with one I’ll assume it doesn’t need it, or it was too hard to make fit. Either way I’m fine with that.
Have you also got the tool for tightening it up, as I didn't think to check Hopes web site to find out if needed it - until I realised the existing tool was too small.

Imo I wouldn’t bother using the tube. They’re not that effective anyway!

I guess it's more to do with the amount of space in a standard 68/73mm bottom bracket shell with a 30mm axle that dictates whether it gets a centre tube or not.
Just to add confirmation. I've bought both a 30mm and a 24mm brand new in the last couple of years. Both came in Hope retail packaging, only the 24mm had the tube.

They both need one. The 24 mm will last for ages, possibly as it has one, while the 30mm will last somewhat less than ages.

This.
The "not being able to make it fit" makes sense. As for needing: when I removed the Hope BB from my hardtail last week the centre tube was covered in crud whereas the spindle wasn't. Last for ages? Yep, just under 14,000km in five years on that BB with the original bearings and it's not had an easy life. That's without popping the seals and packing the bearings with grease as well.
Fwiw, I used my 24mm one without a centre tube for years. I originally bought it as a road BB, but moved it to an MTB which has a different size tube

I need one on my road bike to keep the internally routed cables away from the rotating spindle.
