evening all,
i was readign a thread on here a ciouple of days ago about this, but cant find it onthe search??
been very tempted to make some tubeless goo for my tyres using the Latex liquid, antifreeze/screenwash, and aditional additive to help fill holes,
now, a local shop to me has a few options for adding into the mix, i know a few of you have done your own so thought id ask the collective if any of them would be any good,
i was thinking of the Chopped strands on this page link,
http://www.cfsnet.co.uk/acatalog/POWDERS___FIBRES.html
would they be any good?? or would anything else on there be a good additive?? or am i thinking along the wrong lines??
if not what would you suggest over the slime type additives?? they seem quite pricey for the size??
thanks muchly in advance,
Timmo

From the thread on mtbr which you have probably read, link below to last but 1 page with this recipe on:

Look on model shops websites as they use rubber crumb to make the grass on the sides of the train tracks and rubber sponge for the bushes. 'Woodland scenics' are the main producers, put that company name into eBay and you will get a few good results for course and fine turf and the hedge stuff as well.
Well worth making your own just make sure you get the thick latex and not the watered down stuff.
Thanks for that, there's a half decent model shop in the next town from me, could be woprth a look,
Yeah, I'd read a lot of that thread a while back, I was hoping for a super simple way but lots of that was a bit Over the head! Haha! No idea what xanthem gum is! On the other thread, was a mention of using glitter, but had also seen that small rubber bits was better,
The above place I linked is very close to a good mates wheel referb, powder coating and car cleaning unit, so always a good excuse to pop up!
Art latex and water 1:1 worked here.
Xantham gum is usd to thicken things, I'm sure it could be substituted (or omitted)
Yes xantham gum is a food thickener which you can get from Tesco's (other supermarkets can be used) you only need about 1/4 tea spoon per litre. I got my plumbing antifreeze ( PG in the thread recipe ) from a local caravan supplies store. This whole mix is very cheap to make and very stable so will last along time and not dry up so quick or booger up. They concluded that glitter didn't work, you could use the lint from your tumble dryer filter.
Brilliant, thanks guys, thats Great.
weve both a large tesco and a caravan spares and repair place close by, will pop out and grab ingredients this week!!
so is the anthem gum anthing like Corn flour???
Yes it is a flour type substance used to thicken foods so you may be able to substitute with cornflour.
ideal, have some of that in the cupboard!!
stoner, is thsat just latex and water then?? 2:1??
just chucked on some nobby nic evo triple nano tyres i'd been geiven (non tubeless version) to get it seated, Lots of air bubbles around it, But nothing some sealant wont fix, off to the wholesalers i go!!! 😀
I think my mix is somewhere between 2:1 and 1:1 latex to water.
Not tested in anger yet, but seems to seal OK. Those are "tubeless" ready RoRos though.
Any idea of cost versus just buying Stans?
500ml for £20 making between 750ml and 1L = 2.0-2.7p/ml
Stans sealant on eBay 473ml for £15 = 3.2p/ml
or 59ml for £6 = 10.2p/ml
or 946ml for £23 = 2.4p/ml
So if you get the big Stans bottle it might be as cheap as make your own.
Is this really worth the hassle? Its not much cheaper than the ready made stuff or does it work much better?
Is this really worth the hassle?
For some: No.
For those who like to bodge, it's part of understanding how stuff works.
Mine has cost £6.50 for 1L of latex and £1.10 for 1L of de-ionised water, had the cornflour in the cupboard but that's only 80p a box,
Mixed 2:1 with a heaped tea spoon of cornflour,
CRC etc. Have stans at £18 for a quart or 953ml
On the prices I've got, its less than £9 for 2L and sealed the nobby nics very quickly! Even the front that had a small pin hole in the side that was comically Firing the soloution out whilst pressuring up!
Was very pleasantly suprised when I took the hutchinson off the front to see the hutchy soloution I put in 18months ago Still in liquid form and doing its job!
It is worth doing as stated by Stoner, its good to get an understanding. Also stans changed their solution after a while and it became more watery resulting in not sealing as well as it used to, also it dries out to quickly. The brew posted is much more stable and should stay fluid for a very long time and also not booger up as stans does (results in a big ball of rubber in your tyre)

Cornflour only thickens if you boil it so I don't see how it could be any help when mixed with sealant .
Another one for mould builder latex from eBay and water 1:1 ishMade my first tubeless wheels last week and am very chuffed with myself
Unless you stick a sharp object into the tyre and remove it how do you know if your solution works or not ?
because there are holes in the tyre out of the box that need the latex mix to seal. You can hear them seal as you flop the fluid around in the tyre.
Ramsey-neil, i was going on the basis of the xanthan gum being a food thickener, corn flour doing much the same, and had it in the cupboard so figured its worth a try!
as a first attempt theyve held pressure over night fine, dropped from 60psi down to 40, will drop it to more riding pressures later and go fpr a spin, but sealed holes in the NN's straight away, so i'm happy!
