if the hospital have told you 7 weeks then thats for a reason, 3 weeks impatience just now could have repercussions for the rest of your life.
i reckon you will just need to wait for it to heal properly.
sorry bud.

bones take 6 weeks to heal.

you'll be looking at several months of physio after that to achieve whatever movement and strength you're like to recover.

as above, for the sake of 2 weeks in plaster is it worth jeopordising your recovery and any future hope for the joint to return to normal?

my mate cut his off with a bread knife. Didn't hurt too much at the time, healed weirdly and now has reduced movement in his foot and can't pedal a bike. If its itchy feed a piece of string down there with a knitting needle or similar and then scratch the itch with the string. If there is an infection or it is rubbing, go to the fracture clinic and get it re potted. Unless you are an orthopaedic specialist with X-ray at home, in which case do what you want.

Broken both of my ankles in the past 2 years (seperate occasions). Spent nearly 3 months in a cast for one and 2 months for the other, I'd not recommend cutting it off. But if you want to, what do they know, right?

still have limited movement/pain when riding my road bike/struggle doing squats at the gym/running when it's cold/i have to crack them the same way people crack thier fingers. It's great.

didn't you break it at work? Anyone you can sue?

few lads i know have taken theirs off early, without any problems.

for a mid long bone break you may get away with it if you're young. Joints are just far more delicate and you can really **** them up if you're not careful

Your stupid if you take it off early, why risk your future ability to biek and earn a living?

Bones dont just take 6 weeks to heal. They take 6 weeks to get a minimum heal ie rejoin the broken section, then 12 weeks or so to get any strength back, and up to a year to get anything like original strength back. This is what Mrs FD (orthopaedic surgeon) told me when I wanted to get back on the bike 8 weeks after breaking my wrist.

I once took the pot off my broken arm just a week before it was fully healed. Long story short, it was a stupid thing to do. Hurt like *** at the time and still aches on and off. Listen to the doctors, chap.

Do you think often? I'd ease off if I were you ๐Ÿ˜†

2 more weeks in a pot vs potentially screwing up your ankle. Tough call.

I broke my ankle about six years ago, six weeks in plaster, twelve weeks off work in total. When the plaster came off I couldn't remember how to move my ankle it was really weird. I never regained full movement but it hasn't stopped me riding, although I was nervous for quite a while.

Well, given that you have such a deep understanding of the injury, what could possibly go wrong ๐Ÿ™„

Way back when I used to race motorbikes we did it all the time, one of the guys even had an oscillating saw to aid the removal.
Turn up Friday night, cut cast off, pass the very rudimentary medical check**, race
Tape the thing back on after racing

We used to remove all stitches that hindered movement too

Would I do it now? - no chance ๐Ÿ˜€

** it was so rudimentary that one of my mates got through 3 seasons and passed umpteen checks - he'd lost his left leg below the knee many years before

i think it's a brilliant idea esp after your incisive comments on your busted fibula which, as everyone knows, works like every other bone in the body. i wouldn't believe anything those hospital types tell you because, let's face it, they're a crowd of jokers. they need to face facts and realise that when you've got the internet you don't need the nhs. in fact, you should set up as an orthopaedic surgeon....
