I've just bought a set of Shimano BR-M445s for my partner's bike (they're Shimano's entry level hydraulics). I noticed that the rotors are marked to be used with resin pads only. Now the rotors look considerably thicker and more robust than my XT ones. Why can they only be used with resin pads?
maybe they warp with too much heat - maybe an 'inferior' metal compound?
My new Shimano rotors say the same. I'm riding with the supplied resin pads, but they're a bit squeaky and don't have much bite. I've got some sintered and will fit them as soon as I can. Don't really see what harm it can do. They're only brakes, after all ๐
I kinda ignored that advice too, but after only a short time both rotors seem to have developed little wobbles... ๐
I've seen a few rotors with their surfaces galled, ripped up from folk using sintered in them.
The cheaper rotors are made of softer metal and sintered pads will tear them up over time. But, hey -it's alright, they're only brakes! ๐
