Hi there,
I've had a 16" Inbred 29er and am 5.9X feet. So it was a little small anyway, weight distribution was an issue (weight too far towards the rear or stem too long). But I quite liked it nevertheless.
I'm thinking of getting the 18" version for better weight forward distribution.
I noticed that apart from the slightly longer top tube (23.7 vs. 23.0) it also has a steeper head angle.
Does anybody by chance have experience with both frame sizes?
How much of a difference is it? Especially in terms of the steering feel.
I would be running it with the On One 29er carbon forks.
Thanks!
Hendrik
How tall are you Hock?
Ive owned a 16" & 18" 26 inbreds & 18" 29er inbred.
Being 5-9 puts me between a 16&18 frame, the 18" 29er Inbred did feel too big for me, would love to try a 16" 29er mind.
Guess I prefer the way a smaller frame flicks about.
[edit] love the on-one carbon 29er forks btw
oppps noticed your height on the 1st post 😉
The new 29er steel inbred frames coming in a few weeks all have the same head angle. I slacked the larger sizes.
Almost the same as S here, 5'8.5" & ride an 18". Not tried a 16", but did have a 16" std Inbred. That always felt too small. Not too short, was fine with 90mm stem, but just seemed to have a lot of seatpost showing. I tried a mates 18" std Inbred & that was much better. I was running 440mm rigid forks & the front always felt too low so I used 29er rigids. Worked much better for me.
Was running a 70mm stem but just changed to 50mm & its loads better. Steering feels spot on now. Was running On-One carbons but using Singular Swift steel forks now which prefer the feel of. Bike is just about where I wanted it to be now, very happy with it.

Hi Brant,
thanks for your reply - why did you slack the head angle on the large 29ers then?
What's the difference going to be? And how big/what is the difference between the current 16" and 18" frame?
Might be a reason to get one of the last (14...?) old 18" frames for me.
Though I like the new petrol blue/green colour. Miss the floral head badge though.
Are there any pictures of the 3 different rear ends available yet?
Especially the slot/drop/SS/geared one?!
Cheers!

Why slacker? Just a move away from xc fast handling to "trail fun".
away from xc fast handling to "trail fun"
fair enough! 🙂
Thanks for the link!
Just to close this off:
I asked On One directly on the difference between current Inbred 29er 16" and 18" frame size handling based on 16" having 71° and 18" having 72° head angle.
Their prompt reply was that the 18" is a little bit more agile as the effect of the steeper head angle is partly compensated by the longer (0.7") top tube.
Thanks to everybody here for their comments.
Thanks to On One for their quick reply.
Looking forward to the 18" frame! 😀

Geometry table given for new Inbred 29 Limited Edition SS looks as if you've still got the 71°/72° divide between 16" and bigger. Copy-paste-typo?! 😕
