So I know im getting an alpine, but seem to be stuck between the two sizes of the new design.

Ride a 15.5" Prince Albert with a 70mm stem but at 5ft 10 have a lot of post showing although dont actually mind this too much.

Trying to work out though whether I would be better with an 18" and a 40/50mm stem or a 16" with one much longer as it would be an all day bike for Dartmoor, so much more of the technical descending than flat out suff.

If anyone has either bike size in the SW and wouldn't mind letting me sit on them that would be appreciated.

Si

[thinlydisguisedcheapgag]i'd think if you go too short on the ett you'll get your toe hair caught in your brake levers. there's only 1/4 of an inch in the ett between your 15.5 PA and the 16 alpine. unless you feel you're too cramped on the PA, i'd stick with the smaller frame sizes.[\thinlydisguisedcheapgag]

Hi Si - how goes it? Not been down to SW for a while but hope to be down over Christmas if not before. Still plugging away for local employment but they're soooooooooooooo slow in the HR dept down in the SW. I've secured a job in the Cotswolds (Stroud area) so one way or another we'll be leaving the smoke behind. Hope your well and riding rad (like you wouldn't be!!!) - i think the Alpine will suit you well.

[geek] 15.5" PA has a 22.5" ETT, ALPINE = 16" @ 22.25" & 18" @ 23.25". so its either up .75" or down .25", as its gonna be an all dayer as well as a hack mebbe the 18" or just get a layback post on a 16". So not much help really! Do you ever feel cramped on the PA? But seeing how you winched the PA up steep hills with 160mm forks, i don't think it'll matter!!! Plus a 16" will save you a half inch on seatpost[/geek]

so clear as the proverbial mud then ๐Ÿ˜‰

Alps sounds good so pencil me in pending funds.

As you're on a 15.5" Prince Albert with "a lot of post showing", measure the distance from the top of your saddle to the centre of your BB. Drop me an e-mail with that measurement in it and I will advise you whether to get the 16" or 18" Alpine.

Don't worry too much about the differences in top tube length for your height, as you can dial that in via stem length.

Just got a small alpine myself. I'm 5ft 11" and love the size but I specifically wanted something small to really mess about on. I'm really surprised at how roomy it feels. It doesn't feel like its 1.5" shorter in the top tube than my other bike even though I have a 50mm stem on it. I do have short legs for my height though so the ST length isn't at all a problem. I think it illustrates that you cantnjudge size and feel just by reqding the numbers.
I am comfortable doing 3.5 hour rides on it but haven't tried it for anything longer. The smaller size makes the frame feel very manoeuvrable and very balanced. It's also still very stable on faster smoother sections.
