Just got back from the US, $200 dollars the poorer, courtesy of Delta airlines.

I flew out with KLM, no charge or problems, however the return leg was a different story. Just to add to my woes, the bag didn't turn up in the baggage hall, its still in Amsterdam. Bastards.

KLM = Good

Delta = Bad

Is it not the case that baggage handlers are not aligned to any airline, therefore you can't blame the airline?

It depends whether the cost is for the baggage handlers to chuck his bag about, or for the plane to carry it I suppose Al.

According to the woman behind the desk it was a Delta policy - if you have a bag, no matter what the weight or dimensions, and it contains a bike, you must pay $200.

So if I had a bike which was the same weight and dimensions but full of clothes there would be no charge - crazy logic!
