1) is there meant to be a gasket over the cleat nut to prevent water getting in?
2) Anyone any suggestions for the best way of drying them out?...

Don't know about gasket, but mine seem to get wet inside very easly for a waterproof boot so maybe there should be.I stuff mine with newspaper after a wet ride, does the trick

Got absolutely soaked today, so will stuff them with paper - thanks.
Even full of water they were much warmer than my (knackered) M225s - wetsuit effect, I think...

For quick but not very environmentally friendly option, stuff a disposable nappy in each of them. My defrosters only get wet from water running down my legs into them, or poring over the top.
