I know it's a month or so until I need to make the final decision, but I have to start planning these things...
Our Bike2Work scheme kicks off once a year and having just missed it last year when I started here, I have to decide whether to jump on board, or miss out for another year...
On the surface it would seem like a no brainer, but I'm having trouble trying to work out what bike I'd actually want for £1k, that wouldn't duplicate any of my current bikes, and that would actually be worth buying!
I currently got:-
Geared Inbred
Solitude singlespeed
5 Spot
Pompino, geared for commuting duties
Hack bike
I was thinking a proper geared CX and convert the Pompino back to singlespeed, but as I've already bought the gears for it, I'd much prefer to buy a frame/forks and build it up myself. Unfortunately I can't get those on the B2W as we have to use Halfords... bum...
Then I thought road bike, but I really don't do enough of that really, and the Pompino do this fine when I do go out..
So, any ideas what else I can add to that lot that would come in under the B2W limit, and not cause too much crossover?
BMX? Maybe a 24" one?
I think that would be a very good way of damaging myself.. letting me loose on a BMX to ride a track or jumps!!
Maybe a racing hardtail, something like a merlin rock lobster? It would ride differently from your current HTs and be a nice bike to own.
Had thought about that, but I'm crap at racing!!
But seeing that other thread about essentially the same issue, I'm kinda tempted by a cargo bike, but have nowhere to put it!
You might have issues getting a Solitude as didn't they stop producing some time ago?
Brompton.
Folds up nice and small, is really useful, and is a chick magnet.
Everyone should have a Brompton 🙂
