Had a look on Yell and its about as much use as a wet pair of pants.

Can anyone recommend a decent bike shop in or around chichester?

In and Around Chchester.. What about the Guy on the old A27 towards Fishbourne, the French Guy who sells DeRossa/Colnago/Rocky Mountain.
He's an eclectic bikeshop, he's a very nice/funny bloke and you'll be hard perssed to get out of his shop... It doesn't look much from the road, he's normally got old bikes out front, no sign either and I can't remember his bike shops name either ()
Also on the road out, just off the huge traffic island, on the way to West Wittering there is a bike shop on the right about 100mtrs from the traffic island, loads of Whytes/Trek/Argon and stuff, again can't think of the name, but it's set back from the road, has a sign but I have a brian burst at the mo' and for the life of me can't damn well remember it's name..

Google.. try google..

EDIT.. googles my mate..

Hargroves.
Barreg Cycles (the french bloke)
Geared Bikes (the one on the West Wittering road)
Bike Master

There's a Hargroves in Chichester shopping centre.

Portsmouth - Cycleworld Wessex, Hilsea
Velocity in Cosham, by the bus station/railway gates (bit more roadie)

Pretty sure the French bloke left Barrag cos it was such a mess!

BTW, Yell is old hat - use Google

City Cycles - Martin & Jackie are two of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

Geared Bikes - ditto Pete & Tina.

Both are proper LBS. Great service from both.
