I try and help my struggling mates out with bike repairs and maintenance. They wouldnt be able to afford bike workshop costs.
One has presented me today with a 2x7sp road bike with a really poor set of rear bearings. Its cup and cone and the cups are so damaged it will need a new wheel to remove all the lateral play.
Its 7 speed, but i can see lots more 8sp rear wheels. Will an 8sp rear wheel work? Is there going to be an OLD difference?
Can anyone recommend a decent 7sp wheel to suit? There seem to be some around but very mixed reviews.
Thanks
Ian
Assuming Shimano...
Any use? https://www.sheldonbrown.com/speeds.html
A bit of Google action suggests 7spd came in 126, 130 and 135 OLN variants but 8spd only in 130 and 135.
There's some talk about 7spd fitting on an 8spd freehub with a 4.5mm spacer.
Depending on the frame spacing that might open up some more options.
Thanks...i will get measuring!
My old 7 speed road bike was 130 OLND and any Hyperglide 7/8/9/10 speed wheel seemed to work OK. (NB there are some oddities, eg 9 speed wheels I think).
Thanks guys. Im about to get it measured!
