[#10447172]

Given you have a dedicated EMTB site aka Singletrack charged?
Many times I have thought about cancelling my ”P”, but STW has always been my go to MTB website & I would like to see it remain so I continue, there seems to be quite a buzz on YouTube etc around emtb, just what would it take to add a dedicated forum to the site, even if it was just on the charged site to keep my interest?
/selfish mode>on.
Cheers.

Yes, keep all the ebike stuff away where us mountain bikers don't have to see it! Excellent idea 😀

I think the thought is that we are all bike riders. Why wall off one group? I don't tend to read ebike stuff so it doesn't bother me.
I am intregued that there can be ebike stuff on the news pages but it can take time to filter across to Charged.
I'm sure the view is that ebikes are coming big time, so lets just embrace it as part of the culture of mtb.

Yes, let's institute a policy of "apart-hood" to ensure purity of the different classes.

Best thing about this forum is everything bike related lumped into one forum.

So the haters just stick to their high horses & forget about the love around the Cycling scene 😜

Co-signed, 2unfit2ride - great idea, no-brainer in fact. When you look at the quality of ebike posters we have on here there's no doubt that focussing their contributions on a dedicated forum would be a win for everyone.

In seriousness I hate asking pretty much anything these days, everything is open to ridicule, I understand the dislike of eMTB on this forum but I still think it is relivate to mtb, especially to us unfit/ older folk.

The ebike posters tend to have a live and let live attitude, and generally are a positive addition. The haters, well, generally they can’t ride for shit so their views are irrelevant.

seeing as this is now a thing. When a gentleman asks for a "friend" who has reached a certain time in his life when he is interested in getting an ebike due to a nagging health issue

Whats the thoughts on the Canyon Spectral ON ebike? that my "friend" is strangely drawn to

Great bike, shit customer service and delivery time seems to be decided by a broken Magic 8 Ball and a random number generator.

See Col if you had your own forum you wouldn't have to expose yourself to ridicule like that, and I wouldn't get to feel mildly embarrassed on your behalf - win win. Really think this eeb forum idea is a goer.

Ridicule me all you want mate, obviously I’ll never quite reach the lofty standards of a proper mountain biker like you.

Anyone who thinks there's an age when buying an ebike is acceptable is clueless.
I'd have had one at 20 if what's available today was around back then.

Col has a point. (not just in winding up idiots on here) I've never met a genuinely good mtb rider against ebikes.

To the mildly curious as well as the the haters, try this Vid To see what’s it’s like to be old/overweight/unfit, go to 13 mins 20 seconds if you want to see the full effect without watching the whole thing.

Geex, me too. I was perfectly ok when I bought mine, although vastly overweight, ive lost a stone since, but due to an accident at work i now have limited power/mobility in my right ankle, so I’m glad i have it.
I can still pootle on the flat no problem on a normal bike, but any hills and I won’t be able to walk the day after.
They are now a necessity for me anywhere that’s not basically flat.

I’ll just make it clear btw, I didn’t lose weight because of the ebike, i lost weight because i smashed my leg up at work, and was laid up for 5 months, I couldn’t get up to go to the fridge for a snack, so i lost weight.

Met a few, plenty of general riders who will tolerate them if you keep it under sensible limits. Don't worry about the silence though it's probably just an eye roll, if you lot can keep all your ebike stuff in this thread you have your own forum.

I see where the op is coming from but would a dedicated forum have enough posters at this point in time? I wonder how many members have an e-bike in their arsenal or as their only bike? It's a growing amount that's for sure and no doubt a dedicated forum would be populated well at some point.

That said, it is kind of nice that all bikes and riders are all lumped into this one forum. I've read stuff about other "types" of bike (gravel, SS, e-bike etc) that have really interested/ influenced me and even resulted in the build I am currently doing.

I do feel for the op when he worries about posting for fear of ridicule though. I know this forum has.... It's "moments"... but I would like to think no-one is actually worried about posting over it. That's not right.

But it’s not though is it, try posting in the bike forum & looking for it on the chat forum.
For all I care you could have lots of separate forums with a simple choice that we have now called OVERVIEW, choose what you want to read or just see what’s happening in the world of STW, hell we could even have a road bike curious sub forum, quite like we do now 🤢

Dead right, but I thought it a fun watch and I was trying to illustrate a point. They have some interesting debates on that channel, albeit mainly bias 😀

Sure it will. The ebike haters will lurk there and ridicule ebike owners. Will make it much easier for the haters if you put it all in one place.

😂

In all seriousness when the internet was young and ‘gofar’ Was a thing this place was better than going to the pub for meeting like minded people & I would rather be sat here reading it than going to the afore mententioned boozer. It was fun to be part of the Friday EDL threads, hell Im sure I was part of the the first thread to reach 100 posts. I have given my time & indeed money to help others on this forum, now I’m reluctant to do so, it’s just seems so vindictive & full of opinion that I feel it’s not worth the opinion.

I don't get the ebike haters thing. I understand if they are de restricted and acting like idiots but that's a minority.

I've tested a few when they've been in for repair and they made me grin. I bet they are fantastic to ride.

Bikes are bikes. There are plenty of other people out there that you can hate if you have to!

I like the fact I can ride with a friend who is unfit/old or just enjoys going faster. I hate taking a friend out and riding so slow I don't even have to try. Now they wait for me. You never know, with an ebike I might be tempted to ride with Mrs d?

I don’t get the ebike haters thing.

I think it's a morality thing. They are having fun but haven't earned it by riding uphill (same goes for truck shuttle runs, chairlifts, etc., I assume). The moral balance of the universe is thrown off, the Gates of Hell are opening.

I like the fact I can ride with a friend who is unfit/old or just enjoys going faster.

Hanging out with unfit/old people is the thin end of the wedge, the beginning of a slippery slope to ebike hell.

Strava's prob a big reason for dislike? Anyway I've been Strava free for 6 months now, still ride plenty, and me and a mate are borrowing a pair of decent e-FS for a go this morning.

Cant wait 🙂

No we shouldn’t have a separate forum. We have to put up with roadie/ gravel stuff and ebikes are no different. It’s all live and let live...

It isn't going to happen. BMX, downhill, enduro, trail, bike packing, touring, time trial etc. All in one place.

Why split the forum for this?

Hmmm, I can appreciate the OPs point of view, but (and I'm going to be a bit idealogical now) isn't this half the problem with the modern interwebz in general?

Siloing away all the little niche interests and points of view to avoid any conflicting opinions. I'm less a fan of that ethos than I am e-bikes...

Perhaps one of the best things about STW is that there aren't a billion sub forums, just 'bikes' and 'chat' and you're therefore exposed to topics you might have avoided otherwise both "good" and "bad"...

I hate to say it but life is full of conflict and disagreement, not everyone will like or appreciate your point of view, and they might be OK about it or (if the mood takes them) a total dick.

But if you live your online life in a series of echo boxes, where everyone is nice all the time and nobody is ever mean for fear of offending thin-skinned individuals, isn't it just a bit dull?

Plus you can always just ignore them...

If you move the ebike chat somewhere else then I wouldn't get to read it so no. I don't see myself getting one anytime soon but I'm interested and they sound fun.

Surely most people on here just gloss over all handbags, hair pulling and bitch slapping and skip to the important bits..

Why separate/segregate/split?

Ride a bike and want to talk bike, post in the bike bit. Want to talk non-bike, then post in chat bit.

Presumably so that WE don't have to interact with THEM.

IMHO most of the anti-ebike posts are folk just taking the piss. Ebikers seem to have very thin skins. Maybe that's a side-effect of whatever illness it is that benefits from power-assist.

Have you seen how many sub-forums MTBR has? There's one for brakes and one for drivetrains (with sub-forums for chainrings, chains and cassettes), one for hardtails, one for 29ers, etc..

Just where do I post about new handlebars for my 29er FS?
