I always point mine at the road nearer the bike when I have on-coming traffic. Only look at them if they refuse to dip - soon has them going for the dip switch ๐Ÿ™‚

Worst is off road brightness with the lights set on flashing!

I did still get hit by a car with a MaXx-D on my bars and a diablo on my helmet "didn't see you mate" was the comment!!!

Then he got upset when I shone my bar and helmet light in his face and asked "how can I make this easier for you?" and complained my lights were too bright, and went silent when I asked why he didn;t see me, perhaps he just didn't look!

But, yes, point them down to control the beam pattern is the considerate answer.

and while we are it - flashing rear lights off-road are really off putting too.

Yep, bright lights really are dangerous. I'm sick of car drivers who don't dip. I suspect they're more of a problem than cyclists are.

Yea,i'm talking off road ,these were 2 cyclists and i swear i couldn't see a thing !....can see me reading about some unfortunate accident...think about other CYCLISTS when approaching *note i'm talking about cyclist to cyclist.

As for motorists well thats another story...be here all day !

My lights are in maximum dazzle position when on the road - though I have to ride through Rusholme in Manchester and frankly I could strap the sun to the bars and some of the inbreds driving through there still wouldn't see me when they pull out.

Yep, I with garrypreece on this...it's a right mare when you're blinded by oncoming cyclists when night cycling offroad.

It takes a while for the eyes to re-adjust and the spots in front of your eyes to disappear as well. Half the time, I don't think they realise as I normally get a cheery "Hello!" as they pass which is normally met with a grumpy comment from me along the lines "Hello, could dip your bloomin lights..."
