Saw a few baked looking people coming past the end of my road today (about the 50m mark).
Anyone here partaking? Gonna sign up for it next year and wondering just how hard it is?
Not this year but i've done the long one twice now, at the end of my second one I was like a zombie so I'd suggest it's hard, I managed 7 hours 19 and pretty sure I could have done no better. No doubt there will be someone along soon who says it's easy. If you get the miles in before and think of it as three 30 odd mile rides back to back then you'll be OK.
Really glad I wasn't out there today. I'd have boiled.
I did it the first year & it was well organised. However, the ride itself wasn't hard but riding for X hours out and back along the same route with several hundred other riders going in both directions on roads I can ride any time and usually get some headspace and a sense of freedom riding made me think that my £25 would've been better spent on a big bag of heroin or sommink 😉
.....Mind you, I'm a miserable, anti-social bastard.
I've done the, more laid back, Dartmoor Devil Audax several times and it's much cheaper and much more enjoyable....

BTW, Wotcha Bagpuss, don't think I've seen you since Joyriders. E-mail me if you fancy joining the gang on a bivi up at Redlake this coming weekend.

I considered it as a handy West Country bash when I was going through a "sportive" phase a couple of years ago, but it being billed as "Classic" when it had never been run before put me off.
Looked quite crunchy though.
Hello! No can do the bivi, R is on-call so I think I'm taking mini-me surfing both days but I was about to mail the monkey about the Saturday 9th to see if anyone is up to anything bike related on the moor.
It's not an out and back anymore but know what you mean. But as a miserable, anti-social old so-and-so myself I kinda like it. 🙂
We headed down to the coast for some respite from the heat but saw a few very sweaty MAMILs coming through Moreton when we get back. Fair play but rather them than me in today's heat...
I've done it before too and I'd agree with everything that Bagpuss says.
It's a toughy and even more so if it's hot like today.
The only thing I would disagree on is don't think of it as three 30 milers, it's three and half!! 106 miles.
It was incredibily well organised the year I did it, electronic timing, brilliant food stations, well marked out and even a little Dartmoor Granite trophy for all finishers.
I was entered, but couldn't be bothered to get out of bed for the early start in the end, so I watched the Grand Prix (what a waste of time). I don't think 100 miles across Dartmoor in that heat would have been too pleasant. I went for a ride on the Quantocks at teatime and it was hot enough then.
IT was ace 🙂 First time I've done it and only as my bro was trying to get fit so set himself this as a target. We did the 65 miler, not the full 100. Helped my bro for first 45 miles and - after he insisted I leave him alone to suffer 😉 - had an ace time up the last climb and a chain gang home.
Was surprised how much I enjoyed it as generally don't like organised events. But superb organisation, great course, some proper scary descents (never realised road descending could be that much fun). Also surprised at how many people I overtook on the hills. Malvern legs clearly good prep for Dartmoor climbs.
I'd do it again. 100 next year I think. We were away for 8, so missed the real afternoon heat. Saw a few riders with about 35k to do as we were sat drinking beer 🙂
