My first delve into the darkside proper, had a test on a Specialized roubaix comp - felt really nice. Anything else I should look at in that price range.

I guess I'm looking for something comfortable to put in some 40-80 miles days

Thanks

Plum (Canadia eh!)

Are you looking for something for sportive events?

Bianchi - anything in the C2C range
Planet X - Pro Carbon
Trek
Colnago
Pinarello
Boardman

I'll add the models when I've had some coffee, I'm guessing your budget is £1.5k

Think Felt's Z series is the relaxed geometry one to so might be worth checking out. Have a Spesh Roubaix Elite myself and it's comfy (needed to upgrade the wheels though). The Boardman & Planet-X are great value but more normal 'race' geometry, no reason they couldn't be as comfy as the Spesh though but I'd definitely want to try first (which is hard :p ).

Assuming you are after something at the comfier sportive end of the spectrum, rather than all out stiff and racey - Cannondale Synapse, Ribble's new Sportive model, ProBikeKit's own brand team frame is supposed to be more sportive oriented. All are excellent value for money over the Roubaix Comp.

I have a Roubaix Comp and it is a fantastic bike - came from buyabikedirect.com (? who are really the bike shop in Charnock Richard. That said, I upgraded the wheels for some I found in a sale.

Just to add. I'll not be racing more just for base fitness rides but want something that isn't going to break my back.

As Joxter says budget around 1.5k

Thanks

I would recommend you take a look at the Time speeder ( slightly crap name I know).I had a time edge first the predecessor to this bike and it was truly excellent, a really great frame. Time make brilliant frames which have a great pedigree and are really well finished. Apparently it was also very highly rated by cycling plus last month. I think they are about £1600 with full veloce.

To muddy the waters further, I had a very jolly time on my Scott CR1 Pro at the weekend. I got it in a sale for 1.5k but the Team is the same frame and would be in your budget.
